SPEAKER_02Hi ho, Tallyho, let's go.
SPEAKER_04There we go. And you know, and we also have Ashley Erickson.
SPEAKER_03Hello.
SPEAKER_04Ashley always takes care of uh the contest for us and kind of coordinates everything and does a great job with it. But something special this year we have. We have Jamie Kieser, who's the CEO of the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, who has let us use her amazing meeting room here.
SPEAKER_05Jamie, thank you very much for having us. You are welcome. Thank you so much for coming to the chamber. This is exciting for us, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.
SPEAKER_04Well, we we love being here. I think this is uh right up the chambers alley when we're talking about the best businesses in Burbank and and where else should we be but the business hub of Burbank, the Chamber of Commerce?
SPEAKER_05This is our day-to-day operations right here at the uh the Burbank Chamber of Commerce to support a thriving Burbank business community.
SPEAKER_04And we're just talking about I I had never been in this room before. It's it's a very large meeting room, and there's an outside patio, and I hear it holds about 150 people in that area total. I mean, it's a great place for somebody to come and you know, just to if they need to use a center like this for an event or something. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05Um, the community has really embraced it. It's a uh uh easy access uh place that you can use where you want a state-of-the-art uh boardroom or you want to do something uh on our beautiful patio or utilize both spaces. We have all of that at the ready. So if you'd like to explore, rent, or do anything, come see us at the chamber.
SPEAKER_04There we go. Absolutely. Well, the chamber's always been very worked with my permit for all the years and everything else. We've had a great relationship. So we appreciate you hosting us here. It's very nice of you. Well, Ross Ashley, I think it's time to delve into. We've got way over 200 winners, and and the once again, more votes this year than every every year the vote totals go up now.
SPEAKER_00Almost by a thousand votes every year, it increases.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's it's amazing, you know. And it's uh, I mean, voting's open for the entire month of April every year, and um, you know, people are really getting into it and getting behind it, which we appreciate. And we love seeing all the little decals on people's windows or the plaques and their their businesses, you know. And you should, you know, when you are voting by rank's best, it does mean something. You know, it means that people acknowledge you as a business owner or what you do. In fact, like uh Jamie right now has her her plaque she won for you.
SPEAKER_05We keep this in our boardroom and we call it our bragging rights because we were voted in 2024, we were voted the best event and meeting space. So, all the more reason it was great for us to open our doors and our event space for you today.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. And I think it's great that you know people you know do support it like that. And and the businesses are so important in Burbank. So we have a lot of new winners this year, too.
SPEAKER_00So we have a ton of new winners.
SPEAKER_04So we have a long show for you, so let's let's dive right into it. Ashley, why don't you get us started?
SPEAKER_00Uh so we start with the service winners. Um, we're starting from A to Z. We're going to uh start with the accountant. Best accountant is Kavan and Associates. That's a new winner this year.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_00Appliance Repair is Appliance Repair Burbank.
SPEAKER_02Where are they located, Ashley?
SPEAKER_00I have somewhere in Burbank.
SPEAKER_04Well, and once again, that yeah, we're grateful we have to check these places out.
SPEAKER_00So um, attorney, we have the law offices of Adriano Sfacetti, who was on a recent podcast with you, right, Craig?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, it's on a podcast. He also um does a lot of community work too. I they do bicycles for kids and a lot of other little events.
SPEAKER_02Um real local uh graduated from Burbank High, lives in Burbank, and represent knows Burbank very, very well. He will actually bend over backwards to help you. His law firm located on Riverside Drive near Clyborne, and uh they're great people. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. Um, auto detailing, clean slate auto detailing. Bartender again is Harvey. He's at Hotel Almerano.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say how Harvey the wall banger is he?
SPEAKER_00I was by Harvey the realtor.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say that it if it just says Harvey here, then it had to be Harvey from the Hotel Almerano. How exciting. He serves up a good martini. I think he's won a lot, hasn't he?
SPEAKER_00I think for the last few years. People love that guy. Yeah. Uh bicycle repair is Let's Ride Bike Shop. Car wash is HWB Car Wash.
SPEAKER_02If anybody wonders what HWB is, Hollywood Way Boulevard. Hollywood Way Burbank.
SPEAKER_00Burbank, because it's at the corner of the uh dog trainer is good dog canine training. We have Dula Midwife, which is Shannon Anderson. I think she won last year as well. Uh driving instructor, Jose Perez at Triple A. That's a new category this year. I learned that because uh my son started driving, and I was like, this is something people need to know.
SPEAKER_04Did you take her to Triple A?
SPEAKER_00Uh we go to AAA a lot for other things. Uh dry cleaner, Milton Eedes, as always.
SPEAKER_04A perennial winner.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say there's no great surprise there. We love Milton Eadies.
SPEAKER_04365 days a week, 24 hours a day. And I've driven by there on Christmas, and there's somebody there.
SPEAKER_00We did a video last year because they had one, and we did a uh like a behind-the-scenes video of their space, and it is huge and so cool to see how it all works, and it's all done in-house right there.
SPEAKER_04You you walk in there to have something, but they've got you know, popcorn machine, they've got I mean, they treat they treat you very well as a customer there. They do the entire experience.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05They've been a tremendous asset to uh the media and entertainment industry as well.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Um, okay, electrician, Burbank Electric, event wedding planner, three little birds, event planning and rentals.
SPEAKER_04Three little birds. I I mean, you're sitting around, you have a new business, you say, What do we call our business? Uh and maybe see three little birds outside. Oh, hey, three little birds.
SPEAKER_00We probably have three kids.
SPEAKER_04I I just watched a movie uh the other uh the other night from uh Blackberry. Remember the little blackberries they had? And there's a movie about how they you know how that came to be and how it disintegrated. And the guy actually who vetted the Blackberry, they're going to a meeting, and they couldn't think of a name for this thing. And the guy spilled a had a blackberry stain on his shirt. And so the other guy goes, we're gonna just call it Blackberry.
SPEAKER_00Really? Is that real?
SPEAKER_04That's what according to the movie.
SPEAKER_00How funny. I did not know that.
SPEAKER_02Well, think three birds. You need to have the groom, the bride, the the divorce attorney. So maybe that's how it came up from.
SPEAKER_00Like that. Financial institution is Yumi Credit Union.
SPEAKER_04Okay, fantastic.
SPEAKER_00Another big community advocate.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. And we uh have a board member from uh UMI Credit Union on the chamber board.
SPEAKER_04They do so much, you need to use their their parking levers. They're they're always there to you know help out and stuff.
SPEAKER_00Uh Florist is the enchanted florist.
SPEAKER_05Well, and we are so lucky back to back. Kim Williams, the owner of the Enchanted Florist, is also on the Chamber Board of Directors, and she is amazing.
SPEAKER_04She's a very busy person, I hear too.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if many people know that she is the official florist for the Tournament of Roses. Yes, she does all their events, the cre the crowning of the queen, and on New Year's Day, she's out there making sure her roses are perfect.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely, and she all of the rose court um that you'll see with their red roses, that's all comes from the enchanted florist. Incredible.
SPEAKER_02The girl's a good Burr Burroughs graduate.
SPEAKER_00Burbank through and through.
SPEAKER_02She is. Used to be on Riverside Drive. Right before she moved on uh where Priscilla's there.
SPEAKER_05It was right by Milton Needy's there for a period of time as well.
SPEAKER_00Okay, we have Framing, Four Corners, Custom Framing.
SPEAKER_02They've been another one, been in Burbank for over 25 years. She just celebrated.
SPEAKER_00And a board member on Magnolia Park Merchants Association.
SPEAKER_02And her daughter is uh expecting and the secretary of Magnolia Park, Yasenia.
SPEAKER_00It helps, I feel like, when you have a business and you're invested in the community because then people know about you and you win things like this because people support you. We have general contractor, RM Interior Design. Graphic Design is Hero Graphics, Handyman is Elite Handyman, Housekeeper, Perez Cleaning Service, House Painter, Foothill Painting Company. HVAC Repair is Green Planet Heating and Repair. Insurance agent is Nari Abramian. Landscaper is Linda Vista Landscape Services. And then we have Nonprofit. It's one of our favorites, is Home Again LA. That's fantastic.
SPEAKER_05Thank you so much for the well, and and I almost feel like this is a double win for the nonprofit category because you have HALA, but HALA is now taken over BTAC, Urban Temporary Aid Center. So you can find all of that under the Home Again LA umbrella that is now management of the both nonprofits.
SPEAKER_00They do so much. The toy drive at tequila's during the holidays.
SPEAKER_02And in a couple of weeks, they have their big gala and it's going to be at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, and they're looking, you want to buy tickets to it, it goes to a very good cause.
SPEAKER_00Locksmith is City One Locksmith. We have Mechanic Auto Repair is Burbank Auto Doctor. Mortgage broker is Metric Mortgage. Motorcycle Repair is BMW Motorcycles of Burbank.
SPEAKER_02Now they uh I remember them last year. And a lot of people don't know that's the official motorcycle repair for all the Burbank Police motorcycles.
SPEAKER_00I forgot that you said that, yeah.
SPEAKER_02They were in Hollywood uh several years ago and decided to move to Burbank when Burbank moved from a different motorcycle to BMW so their officers could just go there for servicing. And uh they love it here in Burbank.
SPEAKER_04So what if you have a different motorcycle, not a BMW? They will they still service it, I wonder? Do they?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, most repair shops do that now. Money is money. Money is money.
SPEAKER_00Uh moving company is real rock and roll movers.
SPEAKER_02See their trucks all over with their logo on the side.
SPEAKER_00It's such good branding.
SPEAKER_02Never never go to fake fake movers.
SPEAKER_00Fake pop movers to real rock and roll movers. Oil change is Olive Auto Center.
SPEAKER_05Right across the street from us, right from across the street from Nickelodeon.
SPEAKER_00Amazing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh Party Rentals is Grace Events. Test control, get her done.
SPEAKER_04Oh, get her done. Randy Beckman. You know, it's funny. I've no in fact I I use get her done at my at my residence. And um Yeah, bugs? Always. And and listing devices too. Um and um last year he didn't win. And he called me up and says, Why didn't I win? Right. I go, Well, I guess you need to get enough votes. He goes, Well, can't you fix it? I go, No, I I I've not got to fix it. I go. People spoke. That's you know, I I don't I don't get involved in the voting. None of us do. What the votes say is what the votes say.
SPEAKER_02I don't think a lot of people they they do the same thing to me. They they say, How do you win? And this is all done by computer. We don't have any hearsay on we just let the I know I got emails every day, uh, two, three in the morning, people voting. I don't know who's voting at two, three in the morning, but I I watched the emails come through, and we do not have meaning the operation of my Burbank doesn't have anything to do with that. It's all computer done.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04So I gotta tell Randy, I said, tell your customers, have them vote for you.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04You you do I guess he did that. So congratulations to Randy and get her done. And and you know, they do great work. I used to see her trucks all over town, too. Absolutely. Get her done.
SPEAKER_00And and we are very strict about the one email. So sometimes we'll go through and there's like 10, 20 emails, same emails voting, and uh, you know, we remove it, we clean it up, so it's fair.
SPEAKER_02Don't we go, if I recall when we started this, it's the IP address, and we only allow one IP address from your computer.
SPEAKER_00We do it by e well, I don't know, we do it now by email, so it's single email.
SPEAKER_02It works too far.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. Um, okay, we are at hey uh pet groomers. Pet Haven Grooming. Pet sitter and walker is Ohana and Friends Pet Sitting. Family portrait photographer is Caitlin Salzman Photography. Wedding photographer is cloak photography. Plumber is AJM Plumbing Specialist. Um pool services is Platinum Pools and Spa. Printer is Burbank Printing, which I'm really excited because they uh sponsor our certificates for us.
SPEAKER_04They they do work with us and then and they did not win because of that either.
SPEAKER_02No, they've been in Burbank many, many years. They've A very strong Burbank business big time chamber uh members and absolutely. I know you they're on Burbank Boulevard, they have been there for 30, 25 or 30 years. They do everything, they just don't do printing now with technology. If you're looking for promotional stuff, they put your name on stuff like that and they do it all.
SPEAKER_04And the thing about you know, print shops, they had to completely pivot their businesses because back in the old days, you had to type you could typeset your computer your computer does everything now, and you don't really need uh business cards made and this and that because of our technology, but yet they've pivoted their business to other ways, become relevant still. So, you know, congratulations to them. But great people there. So we I'm glad they won.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have realtor Christopher Rosotti. He's won, I feel like back to back.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he has. And we do see his billboards around town with the bus stop ads, yeah. Yes, the bus stop ads, and of course, he's also one of our city council members.
SPEAKER_05Even though he's councilman Rosotti, we know him here in Burbank for ages in the realtor world.
SPEAKER_04I'll give you a little insight too. I actually coached him when he was in high school.
SPEAKER_02He did go to high school in Burbank.
SPEAKER_04He did go to high school.
SPEAKER_02Um, I know um he he's a lifelong Burbank resident, uh, lived in Magnolia Park, knows the city darn well, and he uh really um former president of the Burbank Board of Realtors. He is at every event he's at um before he was elected uh council member, sat on the planning board for many years and knows the city rather well.
SPEAKER_04And I do like on the city council that he all just rubber stamp things. He'll ask him tough questions once in a while and they hold C staff, you know, to the nose on different subjects, you know. So I like that. I yeah, I hate when we just oh, okay, it's all good, you know, and then let's just keep going. I I want some questions asked once in a while, you know. Let's get the answer.
SPEAKER_02He'll also answer your phone or he'll call you back if you call him. He is guaranteed to call you back or text you back. He, you know, he just doesn't let it go.
SPEAKER_05He is serving on our planning committee right now for the Chamber Excellence Awards, which is taking place on Saturday, May 30th. Uh it's our event that it's our event that celebrates small businesses and community heroes, which is in total alignment with what we're doing today. And we brought back the taste of Burbank experience with the event. So we are be doing this. He had expressed interest, so he is helping us with the planning of all of this. So he wears many, many hats.
SPEAKER_04I miss the taste of Burbank, too.
SPEAKER_05Come out to the Excellence Awards. We have 18 food and beverage vendors right here in Burbank who are already confirmed.
SPEAKER_04So glad you brought it back.
SPEAKER_00All right, we're at Religious Institution, South Hills Church, which is over on Victory next to Corner Cottage. Taylor is Suzy's Cleaners.
SPEAKER_05I just want to speak about Suzy's as well. They are chamber members, newer chamber members. Um, I switched my cleaners to go to Suzy's. They're located on Glen Oaks, close to uh the 7 Eleven there, right by Burbank High School, and she is fabulous.
SPEAKER_00I actually just brought in a romper that's been in my closet for like romper.
SPEAKER_02Can you help me out here? What the hell is a romper?
SPEAKER_00It's like a one-piece outfit.
SPEAKER_02It's like you wear that?
SPEAKER_00It's like a pants and a shirt together. It's like a it's like a fancier outfit. It's her fancy onesie. Yes, it's her fancy onesie.
SPEAKER_04Something you and I would never wear, definitely.
SPEAKER_05I wear rompers.
SPEAKER_00Well, anyways, it had a tear in it, and I didn't really know what to do with it. So it's been sitting in my closet for like two years, and I would it, I brought it to Susie, and I'm not even joking. She took out the sewing machine, she ran it through, and then she handed it to me. And I was like, You're done? That's it. She's like, That's it. And I was, it's like, it's been sitting there for two years. She had it done in 10 seconds. That's who she is. It was incredible.
SPEAKER_02So now I'm curious, have you worn it since you have? Your neighbors recognize you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, all right, we're at uh tech repair, cold space technologies. Waiter and waitress is Aram from The Great Grill, which they're a really great spot. I love their jukeboxes. Uh web designer, Media City Design.
SPEAKER_05Our very own Roman Jacobian. Uh he does all of our marketing uh and uh manages our website and so much more. And we are thrilled with the partnership that we have with Media City Design and the Burbank Chamber of Commerce.
SPEAKER_04He's also very connected to the community. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05He's uh been police, yes, a police commissioner for many, many years.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and he has Burbank merch now. I'm wearing one of his Burbank merch shirts. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And he is one of our roommates here at the chamber. He rents an office space right here at the Burbank Chamber.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have Talent Agency RPM Talent Group. Travel agency is travel agency Burbank.
SPEAKER_02Now, those are that's for people that choose to go outside of Burbank. Craig and I don't use travel agents too many times. The last cruise we went on was down the LA River. So we didn't get far.
Health Winners And New Categories
SPEAKER_04So well, that does it for all our service winners. Congratulations to everybody who okay, we are back, and it's time to go over the health winners.
SPEAKER_00This needs it.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, uh actually, good luck at pronunciations in some of these things because I'm sure glad you're doing it instead of me.
SPEAKER_00Don't come for me in the comments, people. Okay.
SPEAKER_02We do the best we can. I remember we had people email us. I I think it was the attorney.
SPEAKER_00Adrianos.
SPEAKER_02Adrianos, I thought it was a lady.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so you call her a guy.
SPEAKER_02And he's reminded me many times out of the community.
SPEAKER_00You know, we're trying here.
SPEAKER_04Um that just shows you we're not loading this with our our favorites here. Yeah, we yeah, we have trouble with it too sometimes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we have actually a really a lot of new winners, which I'm excited to explore who they are and get to know them and for the city to know them. So we'll start it off with acupuncture is Burbank Acupuncture. Audiologist is sound advice. Cardiologist is Cynthia Fake. Isn't that right? Uh chiropractor is Stitchirop. We have dentist, Palm Dental Studio. Pediatric Dentist is Star Kids Dental. Dermatology is K Dermatology. Dietician is Kylie King.
SPEAKER_02Correct. They're uh we should uh go over and see if they'll give us any credit for becoming a best of urban kids dietitians.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well.
SPEAKER_00Uh we have ENT, studio ear, nose, and throat specialists. General practice is Elizabeth Gregorian. Health and life coach is Karen Knapp Coaching. Massage therapist is Eric Boguslavsky.
SPEAKER_04Very good. You did well, very good. Speed bump.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty good because she didn't have her written out phonetically. That's rather good.
SPEAKER_00I could be absolutely wrong.
SPEAKER_02So we'll hear. We'll hear.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Let me know, Eric. Let me know in the comments. Um, mental health services, mindset, counseling, and psychotherapy.
SPEAKER_02So those go together. If you don't like how you pronounce it, you can go see a therapist and see how that's in order there.
SPEAKER_00Neurofeedback provider. Optimid optimined neurofeedback. I don't know what neurofeedback is. Does anybody?
SPEAKER_05I don't know what that is either. Sounds like your neurological system is talking back.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. Exactly. It was.
SPEAKER_00It's been on for a couple years. Um I have to look up what that is. I don't know. Something to do with your brain, I'm guessing.
SPEAKER_04Well, well look at next year we will have an explanation for you.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have OBGYN, Stephen Rabin, which I actually I've wanted to go to him because he is really big in hormones. Like he's like a huge all over Instagram, knows everything about hormones and helping women through menopause and perimenopause. Um, and I've heard his name brought up a lot.

SPEAKER_02And a little hidden secret, I've done some photography at his uh office, and uh most people don't know. When you have work done, he has a back door you can go out of so you don't have to go out the front door. Oh people see you, so you can have a car waiting in the back alley.
SPEAKER_04He Well, paparazzi's there, you have a way to get to exactly.
SPEAKER_02He does a lot of celebrity work, and uh that was one of the reasons he put it in so they can just slip out the back door and that where you go, Ross, to get your Botox done? Uh no. He has offered some things.
SPEAKER_00We also have Orthodontist, Silva Orthodontics, which I my oldest son went through there. My youngest is starting his braces next month.
SPEAKER_04Fun.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04Three three and a half years.
SPEAKER_00His only needs one year.
SPEAKER_05He only has a little bit of spacing issues, and I'm well and they're they're doing it much younger now. We were always more like kind of the awkward middle school years with our braces on, and and I remember having my braces on for close to three years. Yeah, yeah. Just to teach not anymore.
SPEAKER_04Well, you uh they tid them up and then you go in and take a bite of a burger. Oh, that would hurt. And now they have these clear things too, or you don't even know you're wearing braces.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm going back for that. Once my kids are done, I had braces. I had two sets of braces the headgear, the like key in the roof of your mouth, and I didn't wear my retainer and I screwed up my teeth.
SPEAKER_04My parents I never wore the headgear. I just I had the neck gear.
SPEAKER_05Oh that was a little bit better.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think they've come a long way since then.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they really have.
SPEAKER_02I remember this last year my great my granddaughter had braces put in and uh too many teeth in there and whatever. So and I remember we were at an event the first day she had the braces and she was just in dire pain. And it was at an event that were that was offering cake, and I said, take the whole top layer. You can suck on the icing, you're fine. She she tried it, it it worked. She had dinner that night.
SPEAKER_04How old is she?
SPEAKER_02Ten.
SPEAKER_04They are doing it when they're young now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it depends on if they want to do spacing first and because their teeth aren't all down by ten years old, so yeah, it just depends. Okay, we're at uh podiatrist, Joseph Pack, pulmonologist, Dr. Tabak. I don't know if that's correct. Senior living is Ivy Park, which Ross and I know very well. That's where my mom is now. It's pretty close to the chamber, isn't it? It's um next to Providence.
SPEAKER_05Oh, next to Providence.
SPEAKER_02All there yesterday, and not many police people even know where Willow is in Burbank.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02It's off of uh Alameda, like you say, across from Haw uh St. Joe's and beautiful. Great facility for seniors in our community, I will say. Uh my mother lived there for five years, and I know several residents that are currently there. And uh they do offer a great program and very clean, very nice, and the food is great. The chamber, I remember, had some events there several years ago. Uh they catered and partied and great place.
SPEAKER_00Uh therapist counselor is Nancy Lozano. Uh she's incredible uh family therapist, uh marriage and family therapist. Urgent care is care fast urgent care.
SPEAKER_02Now, do we know there are so many urgent cares in this? Do we know by chance where this one is?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I actually go to this one. I switched over to this one. They're over by handles. Oh, okay. Yeah. And they're actually really fast. But like it's my secret. So don't everybody go there.
SPEAKER_04So I I I have a complaint about I I would try to go there one time and you park in the lot, and you try and you can't go in there, you don't go all the way around. You have to walk all the way around, which for me was I went somewhere else because too much of a walk. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And you want to know some real trivia?
SPEAKER_04You can't walk, you can't walk.
SPEAKER_02Want to know some real trivia of the city?
SPEAKER_04Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02That's where Jim's Tilly's Union gas station used to be.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_02When that whole complex was built uh sixty some odd years ago, and now Tilly's is at Hollywood Way and Burbank. But Jim Tilly's Union before the ice cream place and everything. A lot of people don't remember. It went Vaughn's, Dana Drugs, uh, Gilbert's 5 and 10, Dana Drug's uh barbershop and so forth. And Curry's ice cream was at where Starbicks is now. Uh there was a there's a dry cleaner's in there, and there's a launder mat. It used to be right in the middle. I remember well because my brother put me in a dryer, turned it on, and ran.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Thank goodness the door was only on one of those magnetic catches, and I could kick it out. He thought it was pretty funny. I didn't when I started curling my hair.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say is maybe it fried all your hair off your head.
SPEAKER_02Little trivia about Burbank. Cool.
SPEAKER_00Um, okay, we have urology, Dr. Kasabian. Veterinarian is Media City Animal Hospital. And last one, Weight Loss Center, is Psy Performance.
Beauty Winners And Local Favorites
SPEAKER_04Fantastic. Well, I guess that'll do it for all of our health winners, and we congratulate everybody who won. Alrighty. We are back, and this time now we have our beauty winners.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm gonna love this one.
SPEAKER_04I guess I could go to anyone, and they can improve anything on me whatsoever. So I have uh I have no uh I'm too vain about that. What can I say? Okay, Ashley, let's uh let's get into our winners.
SPEAKER_00All right. So we start with Barbara Yitsi Stark from Oscar's Barbershop.
SPEAKER_04On Magnolia, correct?
SPEAKER_00It is on Magnolia.
SPEAKER_04I think they do a lot of fades and all that too.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you know a fade, huh?
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, yeah, because I obviously don't do a fade. I never knew how I had to uh say that.
SPEAKER_00Those are very popular. Um and then barber shop goes to Oscar's Barbershop, which I think is a new win for them.
SPEAKER_04I think, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh we have Day Spa, which is Relax Spa and Beauty. Esthetician is Leona Bella Skincare. Eyelash services is spa lashes. Eyebrow services is Daisy Quimby at Beauty and the Blade Salon. Hair colorist is Amanda Rotano, which she just celebrated 20 years in Burbank and had to move locations. Um, they sold the building she was in, so she bought a building down the street and just reopened. Crimson.
SPEAKER_05We will have to go see her at the chamber and maybe we can do a ribbon cutting.
SPEAKER_00Yes, absolutely. Uh hair extension specialist Lauren Morales at Crimson.
SPEAKER_02Now there is a place that I can talk about.
SPEAKER_00Hair salon is Crimson Hair Studio, and hair stylist is Amanda Rotena. They they took the the hair category by storm over there. Uh laser hair removal, true med spa, which Ross doesn't need.
SPEAKER_05Or my husband, Mike Thomas.
SPEAKER_00Or my husband. We all have bald-headed husbands around. Um nail salon is Oasis Nail Spa, that's on Magnolia. Makeup artist is Flawless Touch by Mar. Medical Spa is Burbank Infrared Sauna, which is a pretty really amazing place. I don't sure you guys haven't been there, but it's they're a lot of spa days for me. They're like the they're saunas, but it's red light. So you're like sweating under the red light and sweat all it out. Uh permanent makeup artist Daisy Quimby at Beauty and the Blade Salon. Spray Tans, Media City Sun, and Tanning Studio is Media City Sun.
SPEAKER_05That makes me happy because I know the owner, Denise Dang, who is fantastic. She used to work for the pharmacy at Vaughn's Pavilions, and she decided uh that she wanted to go in a whole different direction. So she's right down there near um downtown Burbank, and she loves it. And she's always beautifully tan and looks like she just came back from vacation. One of our rare double women.
SPEAKER_00And I go there three times a week, but I don't tan. I do the red light therapy beds because tanning I didn't, you know. Well, I could do a spray tamp, but um, you know, to stay away from skin cancer. And the red light beds are supposed to help rejuvenate, like cell turnover and things like that. Um, but fun fact is when she took that over, it came with the bird.
SPEAKER_05Yes. So when you go in there, the parrot is still there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. She was, I think. Does it talk? It does it does a lot of things. Yeah. It it's it's now fried. Sometimes I'm in the in the bed and you can just hear her screaming like down the hall. It's pretty funny. Um, okay. Waxing is Europia Wax Center. Wellness Services is Sitara Wellness. And that is our beauty winners.
Food Winners That Spark Debate
SPEAKER_04Fantastic. Welcome. Once again, congratulations to all of our winners. Nice job. Okay, we are back, and now we're talking about something which I have a little bit of experience with, and that's our food winners. So that's all I'm always perplexed to see what Burbank thinks is the best this and the best that, because it's it's um it's like you know, who who's the best team? We all have our own, you know, our own uh discussion on that, you know, and our own favorites. And so sometimes I agree, sometimes I don't agree. But you know what I do do is go and try some of these places to say, okay, what am I missing? Let me try it. You know what? So why you find something?
SPEAKER_05So we have great restaurants here in Burbank, and the you know, a lot of our chamber members are uh within the restaurants. Uh, we've done a lot of behind the scenes uh things to support our ref uh our restaurants when the plastic ordinance came down. We hosted workshop in workshops in lockstep with the Burbank Recycle Center to make sure that all of the restaurant owners knew exactly what the new regulations would be. Uh and I'm looking at this this list right now and I'm excited. And we're doing it right at lunchtime. So our stomachs are gonna be uh growling soon enough.
SPEAKER_04And let me see, that's that's probably one you know, people are we're not here to I'm not here, Jamie's not asking me to do this, but getting a chamber membership does a lot of things for you and helps you in in a lot of small ways, like the new ordinances came through and they help walk through businesses through that. So, you know, I I think if you getting a chamber membership might be a little bit of a cost, but I think the benefits far outweigh any kind of cost you have, plus you're more connected to the Burbank community, too.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely, and I appreciate that. And as I look at the list of all the honorees, there are so many businesses that are familiar, so many businesses that are chamber members, but there's so many businesses that I have not heard of, which we are gonna change that and we are gonna go and congratulate and visit and see how we can stay connected with uh all of our winners.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. Well, Ashley, are you ready? Let's bite into it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm excited. All right. Bagel is bagel boss.
SPEAKER_05I don't know if you guys have been there. Their bagels are outstanding. Uh I always loved Western Bagel, but it was at the far side of the, you know, uh almost Chaluka Lake. So now Bagel Boss is right on Magnolia. Um, and they are absolutely fabulous. They have the best cream cheese. My favorite is their toasted sesame bagel with their Lox Scallion Cream Cheese. It's to die for.
SPEAKER_02He's very community-minded. Um many years ago I met him and and uh when he opened, um, and uh he's changed quite a few things. One of the nice things that he does, he makes arrangements with schools in Burbank. At the end of the day, if he has extra bagels and a PT group has something going or a meeting, he'll donate all the bagels and some cream cheese uh to them. Last week they supplied bagels. The Magnolia Park merchants had a uh mixer. I I don't know how many dozens of bagels and six different types of cream cheese. I mean, they're just really, really great. They do it right and good people. They close early in the afternoon because bagels are a morning thing. Right. But uh been in there and great, great business in Magnolia Park.
SPEAKER_05Ross, I know that you're not a morning person. If you are, let's go and have bagels at Bagel Boss.
SPEAKER_02I used to be in there every day and when I put on 25 pounds eating locks and bagels every day. I used to go home with not only what I was eating, but enough bagels and stuff for three, four days. And I will tell you, you can put on the weight real quick.
SPEAKER_00Well, let's go in and split a bagel. Okay, that would be anything in moderation. Absolutely. All right, we have bakery, which is Porto's Bakery.
SPEAKER_02Again, uh great.
SPEAKER_04Porto's you know, is there a line there to get in? I don't think I've heard of Porto's. Oh I do. I I can't I can't believe the line I see every single day to get in that place.
SPEAKER_02Well, I can again, uh Betty Porto is uh on the board of Magnolia Park Merchants. And um last night she missed the board meeting because she was at a concert. But we do not have a meeting that she does not bring food to us. Either potato balls or empanada, whatever, and she is a lot of people don't realize when you're at an event in the city of Burbank, look for the yellow gold box as for Porto's. And um I've been in their kitchen. Uh Betty has taken me on a tour. Every item has to meet the stringest, you know, you will not see a tart go out of there without a strawberry out of place or anything. And um a lot of people say, you know, look at the business they do. They'll be opening up uh at the new Burbank Airport uh shortly. They've been asked to open up there.
SPEAKER_05So well, and and and and to dovetail on that, even when I've been at the Hollywood Burbank Airport, I have noticed that people will stop at Portos and they'll take that home as gifts for their family and what have you. So a lot of people are walking onto their plane flight home with uh Portos.
SPEAKER_02Uh you just celebrated 20 years in the city of Burbank. It's gone quick, but uh a great uh supporter of Magnolia Park and the city of Burbank.
SPEAKER_00You should put that like on a Valentine's Day card. Like, I'll stand in the Portos line for you. Like that's that's like how much I love you. Absolutely. All right, Banquet Center is Balage Banquet Hall. Okay, barista Maria uh Cachatorian? Catch it? There's there's no A in there. Uh at Cafe Grano, which is in downtown Birmingham. Uh Bar and Grill is Magnolia Corner, which I'm actually really excited about. That's a really fun space. They took over the old Tinhorn Flats.
SPEAKER_05Tinhorn flats. And they have great food. Yeah, they will tell you it's a great place to go and like meet some friends for a happy hour or what have you. The owners are really, really friendly.
SPEAKER_02Steve is a great guy in there.
SPEAKER_05And they uh it it kind of, you know, there's certain things like the saloon doors that they still have that are reminiscent of what it used to be, but they've just kind of elevated the experienced. And if you haven't gone, I suggest you do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they have a great patio outside, which he um what took him so long to open was the requirements of the city of Burbank and the health department, which was so unfortunate it extended his opening two years. But if you go in there, he really um changed the whole place. It's nice, clean. I remember when you and I did a burger review at the former place and uh it tasted horrible and they called us and we redid that. Uh they changed their burgers because they got brought brought in fresh meat and yep.
SPEAKER_00Well, they actually use Handy Market.
SPEAKER_02Correct, correct. Which is, if you think about it, for a lot of people don't under also bagel boss, they're in there at 3 a.m. making bagels for Handymart. Oh. For his catering business. Apparently, Western Bagel used to be um Handy Mart's supplier, and they couldn't get him out the door by five o'clock, and that's when their catering service takes care of all the stages at all the studios, and bagel boss said, Well, we'll do it for you. He's grown out of his space already because of the uh bagels, but a lot of people don't know he makes bagels for Handy Mart.
SPEAKER_05I didn't know that. I will definitely uh if I can't make it to Bagel Boss, I will go to Handy Market.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have barbecue, Wood Ranch Barbecue. Boba. Did you guys ever try boba? Because every you tried it?
SPEAKER_04No! But but he's driven by it. I I parked my car every day over at the old uh K Mart.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04And I looked one day and I said, it said boba. And I'm going, there's the boba bar. And so I I know I now know where it is, and this year I do promise.
SPEAKER_00You better go. There's boba places all over the city. All over.
SPEAKER_04It's not it's not a food, it's more of a drink. Yeah. Yeah, I thought it was like a food thing, you know.
SPEAKER_02So I don't swallow the marbles at the bottom of the cup.
SPEAKER_00You have to chew them. Yeah. Oh what do you do with them?
SPEAKER_02I thought they were marbles. I was collecting them.
SPEAKER_04I'm perplexed. I I will, I uh that's my my assignment.
SPEAKER_05Okay. When my niece was my niece was at Burbank High School, her and you know, her her friends, they loved Boba, and that was kind of the new trending thing. And we used to drive to Pasadena to go to their favorite place. Now, right here in Burbank, you can find them all over the place. And uh it's it's you know, it's a normal staple for communities. Well, I will be going to the one there in the department.
SPEAKER_00Winning Boba.
SPEAKER_05All right, we want to know your feedback on the boba experience.
SPEAKER_00Um, bread is random acts of breadness.
SPEAKER_05They are chamber members. They were with us, Randall from Random Acts of Breadness. Uh they have incredible sourdough. They were at the Chamber Chili Cook-Off that we did a couple uh weeks ago at the Burbank Historical Society because we thought having a food vendor like that, that you know, tasting of sourdough bread themed really nicely with the chili tasting.
SPEAKER_02If you ever want an education on how to make sourdough, go see Randall. He will give you a tour of his whole place, you know, from when he starts to, I guess the sourdough needs to sit or whatever for a couple of days, and then how he uh cooks it, and then everything that he does is just it's a good place to uh to uh buy some good sourdough in town.
SPEAKER_00I agree. All right, we have breakfast.
SPEAKER_02Oh, good. Where what are you serving us?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I didn't even we have to pause. I wrote breakfast burrito, and that's not a place. That's why it was like, okay, I remember.
SPEAKER_04That's a great breakfast, though.
SPEAKER_00It was the Great Grill on breakfast. Oh, and obviously they serve the breakfast burrito. Yeah, I'm like, why did I write the Great Grill? Um, I think they won breakfast last year as well because I remember seeing their certificate in the window. Uh breakfast. Burrito, here we go, is Larry's Chili Dogs.
SPEAKER_02I can talk a week about John at Larry's Chili Dog. He uh, if you like if anything you want on your breakfast burrito chili, he'll do it with tater tots instead of potatoes. John will fix your breakfast burrito the way you want it. He also, my son is in the movie industry. My son will call him at five in the morning and say, get 50 burritos ready for me. And John will go in early and has a uh a container, and Matt brings him to the stage, and the guy's all love when he brings uh uh John's breakfast burritos.
SPEAKER_04Corner College used to be the go-to place for everybody, but I think that they've kind of been replaced by you know the nice there isn't one now for a couple years, and people everybody I know has tried it is in love with that.
SPEAKER_02Also, like I say, if you talk to John, probably the nicest guy you will ever meet. He's just a great Burbank, you know, citizen and he loves what he does. Like greatest chili cheeseburger of the high.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I love that. And we've done some of our, you know, um uh meetings in the morning and things like that, and we've got the breakfast burritos from Larry's, and they're always a huge hit.
SPEAKER_04If you haven't been to Larry's lately, they've actually had an indoor seating area now, too.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I didn't even know that. Really cute like diner kind of looking vibe.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 50s type vibe.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have Brewery, the Bruce Brothers.
SPEAKER_02Brunch now, if anybody wonders, yeah. Bruce Brothers, not the Blues Brothers, but the Bruce Brothers, is on Olive under where Chadneys used to be years ago to us old folks. But uh they're also they're under the power lines. You drive by their parking lot on given nights. I guess they have events going on there all the time.
SPEAKER_00I see sometimes on Instagram they'll have like trivia or comedy shows. And I just took my mom in there the other day, and it's really beautiful in there, the way it's like open, and they've got the brewery, you know, distilleries.
SPEAKER_02Again, a little trivia Burbank.
SPEAKER_00Your story, too.
SPEAKER_02You can't do you're right. There they have an upstairs. No, if nothing can be built there because it's actually above the wash. The LA wash goes underground. And if you ever notice the power lines that LA Department of Water and Power own are above their parking lot, so you can't go up, you can't go down.
SPEAKER_05Wow, I did not know that. And the Burbank Young Professionals, uh, they used to do a beer run, and it was always started at um uh at their location, and then they do the run, and then we do uh an event upstairs where everyone could have beers and and sample the food, and it was a huge hit. What they've been able to do to that space is really beautiful. Yep.
SPEAKER_00All right. We have brunch, another broken egg. We've got buffet, smokehouse.
SPEAKER_04You prepared to pay for that, though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. It's changed a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Things cost money. Do they have the garlic bread, though?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_05Okay, good. All right, I'll go.
SPEAKER_00Uh, burger is Smash Burger.
SPEAKER_02Now, there's that's a new term. Smash burgers. There's several. Is this the one by Overy by You?
SPEAKER_04No, this is the one up on San Fernando, actually. The one by me is called the Mouse. Oh, yeah, that's nice. And uh, and uh is excellent too. Um parking, but it's a great place. I think next year we'll have to actually have a category for Smash Burgers because it's how popular.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, that's true. That is true.
SPEAKER_04Because yeah, to me, I used to like a little that pink in my patty and all that. And smash burgers are pretty pretty usually medium well.
SPEAKER_00So if you were to pick burger, so you have Smash Burger, what would be your top burger then?
SPEAKER_04Would be my top burger? Well, I if I whenever I have my choice, I'd go to Larry's. If it didn't close at three in the afternoon, I'd be there at night all day. That would be your dinner. I love your cheeseburger. And the fries there are awesome. Uh well done fries there. With all that seasoning salt on them.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we should have ate before we did this.
SPEAKER_04I know. And then and then if you want dessert, you go next to the door to that place sliders and get some dessert. So I mean it's it's a great, you know, and then you then you start looking like I do when you're done.
SPEAKER_02It's nice to see businesses like sliders. He just opened also in Pasadena. Oh, he broke uh uh grand opening two weeks ago. He was looking for another place in Burbank and couldn't find it, so he moved to Pasadena. He'll he's keeping both shops open, but uh that's kind of a neat place, sliders if you've ever been in there. But you're right, you go from one to the other.
SPEAKER_04I I I think they really go w hand in hand with each other. It's too bad they can't work out an agreement, or Larry's can't be open later at night because I think it would they would they really compliment each other.
SPEAKER_02I'd love to see go by sliders and see all the kids' bikes up front.
SPEAKER_00There's always a line, and the neon signs are so pretty. All right, we're at Cake Company is half baked.
SPEAKER_02Now, who eats half-baked cake? I always read on the package do not eat raw dough.
SPEAKER_05So here's what I'll say. It sounds to me like you've never been there and tried their product. So it's half the calories and everything, but you can't tell. It's absolutely delicious and uh, you know, uh the healthy option of a delicious cupcake.
SPEAKER_00It does not feel like it's half not at all.
SPEAKER_02But I'm curious. Is it baked? Half baked or fully baked?
SPEAKER_05It's fully baked, but it's half it's half the calories.
SPEAKER_02Oh, hey.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00And they just started serving coffee there too. Yeah, it's great. Uh Candy Store is Sweetie's Candies. That is over that's the little shop by the AMC. Oh, but by Flappers.
SPEAKER_02No, no, by uh Jerry's by the back of Binance.
SPEAKER_05Yes, I know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_02Boy, they've been there a long, long time and nobody can find it because of its location.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But they do have, you know, a array.
SPEAKER_00Walk in traffic for sure. Uh catering is Burbank Caterers. Chili is Chili Johns.
SPEAKER_05Well, and Chili Johns just opened the Chili Johns Tap Room, which is right next door. They're they were at the Chamber Excellence Awards last year uh with uh their uh showcasing their beer. It's delicious, and the food is really wonderful. So if you haven't had an opportunity, it's not just about chili anymore. You can also stop there and get some other things on their menu and it's a good cold beer.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you gotta do, you gotta like you say, pivot. Yeah, that that's a great you know combination. So good smart.
SPEAKER_00Are they celebrating an anniversary?
SPEAKER_05Yes. Oh, thank you for saying that. Their 80th anniversary at Chili Johns this year. Wow, wowy years in our community. And one of the other things that's really great about them is it's an iconic space where there's been a lot of movies and different things that have been filmed there at Chili Johns.
SPEAKER_00It's fun driving by and then the windows will be a different like name because they're filming something in it and they change the name on the windows, and there's always something happening there.
SPEAKER_04Always. Tarantino movie a couple years ago had it, they had a big presence in that, you know, the Once Upon a Time or what? Yeah, that was. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Yep.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have Chinese cuisine, Frontier Walk.
SPEAKER_02I will tell you, I'm Burbank has a lot of Chinese places to offer, but Frontier Walk, they used to be on Hollywood Way. Uh then that one changed to Frontier Walk 2, and they moved to Olive.
SPEAKER_05And if you want to talk about the tally round?
SPEAKER_02Yep. Yes, just west of it.
SPEAKER_05Wonderful.
SPEAKER_02Uh, they're now open. I saw just on the side of their building earlier now on certain days, but um they're delivery service, they have their own, they don't use a third party, so you're you know, when you order something to be delivered, it gets delivered rather quickly from their own people, so you get it. I've had food so hot still that was delivered, it hadn't been, you know, the delay. But their food is fantastic.
SPEAKER_00All right, coffee shop, and this is a big category because there are a lot of coffee shops, and I think like three just opened last week. Uh, but it goes to Three Sisters Coffee and Tea, who has a very big community following.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely, and they're great. I love that it's a family-owned business, and uh they it's it's a a delightful environment when you go there, and their coffee is outstanding.
SPEAKER_02A lot of people I've been in there once or twice, so it's nice to see people sitting back reading, drinking, sipping their coffee or tea, and uh either have their uh laptop open or their tablet or reading a book.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They actually have a book vending machine inside there, too.
SPEAKER_02Book vending machine. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Exactly what it sounds like. Um, okay, we've got cocktail bar, broken compass, which have you guys been there? It's fabulous.
SPEAKER_02It's not since it's remodeled. We we were there a long, long time ago.
SPEAKER_04I actually tried to go there three, four months ago, and it was it had an event that sold out and you couldn't go in.
SPEAKER_05So and they did a little remodel on this face, and it has this cool tiki vibe to it. They do some incredible signature cocktails, so there's no great surprise that a broken compass uh was able to uh uh be a a winner in that category.
SPEAKER_04And we'll get by by their year.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's so cool. The waiting room is like the jungle cruise. Yes, and then inside is like Pirates of the Caribbean.
SPEAKER_04It's like if you can't go to Disneyland, I'm in the waiting room, that's far as I'm doing.
SPEAKER_00And I will say this too. The food is delicious. Okay. Um, all right, we got cookies, crumble, which is across from Porto's. Cupcakes is yummy cupcakes.
SPEAKER_05Yummy cupcakes is fantastic. Um, my favorite is the old school, and it's like the hostess cupcake. That's my favorite. It's so delicious. And uh a little fun fact is yummy cupcakes, three sisters had some of the yummy cupcakes that they were selling uh right there at their coffee shop.
SPEAKER_00And she used to be on the Magnolia Park Merchants Association board a while ago, too.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Long time ago. Uh Deli sandwich. This is a hot topic because you could go either way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this isn't.
SPEAKER_00And it went to Santoros. I love Santoros.
SPEAKER_04I I love Santoros also. Um, I'm also a big fan of Submarine Kiwi. Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's wonderful.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I and he's I I love his Korean stuff, but Santoros is a Burbank staple. Uh, you know, and they pile it all on there for you.
SPEAKER_05Simple. You know, when you go in, you you get in, you get out quickly. My favorite there is their tuna, their tuna sandwich, and they put that oregano on the top. It's absolutely delicious.
SPEAKER_02I ask him one day, what makes your tuna so good?
SPEAKER_05Thank you, Ross. It's true.
SPEAKER_02They literally wet they wash it many times so you don't get that fish smell. He writs it out so it gets all the water out of it, then he'll rewash it three times, and that's what why you don't get that tuna taste. And you know, he adds his other stuff to it, but that's why the secret that uh I have learned.
SPEAKER_00That's now out.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I agree. I'll have to try that. Alright, dessert. This is a new winner. Cookie dough dreams. This is actually cookie dough you can eat.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Uh donut is donut hut. My favorite donut.
SPEAKER_02He is um another iconic place. Not only iconic, but the guy that runs it, uh, I can't think of Calvin. Calvin. Just coming on the Magnolia Park board. He wants to do the east part of Magnolia Park, which is east of Buena Vista. He has some fantastic ideas. He changed that place when he took it over. I mean, really uh well known. You'll you'll see people there 24 hours a day.
SPEAKER_00Wow. My favorite is going late at night when they're making the donuts. You can watch them and they like around like eight, nine, I think they make the blueberry one, and you just get it like right off there. It's the best. You can't ever go back to eating a regular donut once you get it like freshly made.
SPEAKER_02Well, back in the day, Craig and I used to go to a place we it's known as 1721 to us, but it was uh Winchell's where I think Homer. Homer was, yeah. Homer was the uh guy that made and he he did the donuts at night, and you always see ten cop cars out there. The reason he gave them coffee and donuts, he never got robbed. But he lived two blocks over on Keystone. I went to his house once, grew his own bananas. He was the nicest guy, and uh when he moved on, it was unfortunate that donut prints has kind of changed now. But there's so many different places, yeah, not commercial like some of them.
SPEAKER_00So they really are all good though.
SPEAKER_05Well, and I love a good glazed donut, just a simple glaze, hmm.
SPEAKER_00This is a new category we added in this year, which is food truck, because if you drive around Burbank, they're parked everywhere in front of Ralph's, I mean they're they're all over. Um, but the food truck that won is the churro man, which is very good actually. And that's in front of Ralph's usually.
SPEAKER_02What do they serve?
SPEAKER_00Um I don't know. Uh frozen yogurt is Menche's, gluten-free is wild carvery, happy hour is broken compass. Okay. I get that. Hot dog is Larry's Chili Dog.
SPEAKER_02Definitely. I you can't beat Larry's Chili Dog, can you?
SPEAKER_04You bite into it, you get the snack. That's it.
SPEAKER_02I have been to every hot dog place around from Carney's to Pinks. I have traveled everywhere, and I'm sorry. Larry's Chili Dog.
SPEAKER_04I'm sorry, the chili there is so smooth. I I love the chili there.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna see if I can get them for the uh chili cook-off next year. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02He is uh John again, uh he makes that chili.
SPEAKER_05Oh, it's just because I do like chili on my hot dog too.
SPEAKER_02And you know, online a lot of people are commenting on good food places, and so many say, have you tried the chili dog at Larry's Chili Dog?
SPEAKER_00All right, we have Kid Friendly Restaurant, which is the Great Grill again. Oh. I don't know if you guys have been there, but they have the little jukeboxes at every table.
SPEAKER_05So fun.
SPEAKER_00You can play. It's really, really fun. Uh and then we're just talking about ice cream shop, which is sliders. Oh, next to Larry's. Italian cuisine is Ma's Italian kitchen.
SPEAKER_02Definitely, definitely great, great place. Always busy.
SPEAKER_05And Michelle is the owner there. They're in that little strip mall right by the Hotel Almerano as well. And their food, their homemade pastas, everything there is absolutely delectable.
SPEAKER_02And again, some trivia. I gotta throw it in there because I'm the oldest guy in the room. Used to be a California Donuts.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_02And that mall was built uh at the end of that. It was a B of A, or it was uh yeah, B of A and then the bar.
SPEAKER_03Sardo Sardos and Sardo's and then California Donut.
SPEAKER_02We happen to know that that part of town rather well.
SPEAKER_00All right, Indian cuisine is flavor of India.
SPEAKER_02They're on uh Burbank, right? Uh if I'm right.
SPEAKER_00I don't ordered from like I Uber Eat them. I just don't know where they are. Japanese cuisine, Gyukaku Japanese cuisine. Is that how you say it?
SPEAKER_02Sure, why not?
SPEAKER_00No. I've never heard of this. This is a new winner for us.
SPEAKER_02I have. I've heard uh again online. People uh list out places if I recall. This is up on San Fernando Road and uh has a following. Ramen is a big thing now and stuff like that, and there's uh several, and that's one of the places that offers a real good ramen.
SPEAKER_00All right, we have Juice Shop, which is Bone Juice.
SPEAKER_02They're great people again in Magnolia Park business. I gotta plug my my supporters of Magnolia Park, they are great, great business over there.
SPEAKER_00Anytime someone is sick in my house, I run over there and I say, Give me everything that I need to not get sick. And I go home with like juices and shots, and I will drink that for two days, and it has worked every time. Late night restaurant is Bob's Big Boy.
SPEAKER_02Well, we haven't ever eaten there, have we, Craig?
SPEAKER_04Who doesn't love the big boy combo? I got although I know a couple of complaints, they they got rid of their drive-thru, which I is disappointing. And then you cannot order it through the any of the apps.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Because I and after I said, Well, I I'd love to you know we're too busy. We don't have time to do to go orders.
SPEAKER_05And their blue cheese is the absolute best. You can even buy that from the market.
SPEAKER_02It's funny you say that because this last night I was at the market, and tonight's dinner is gonna be a wedge salad. And guess who's dressing is gonna be on top.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, it it's an amazing place. I re Dr. The Days actually the entrance was on Riverside Drive. And they remodeled it and everything else.
SPEAKER_02And people that are listening to this podcast, um back in the day when there was a football game at Burroughs, people would literally line up for the um drive-through, not drive-thru, the um drive up uh what was that called? Uh car hop service. And if the line was out on the pass past the freeway, you knew it took it would take you an hour in that line to wait to get to car hop service. But that was the thing.
SPEAKER_04That and a cherry coke, and I think people did uh uh uh in and out that we're half a block away. I I thought that that's not worth it.
SPEAKER_02So Bob's big boy, and that is a historical building in the city of Burbank. Most people, you know, everybody comes through town and looks at it and goes, wow. Um, we remember it back when that intersection was a little different and there was a gas station across the street and a Dale's market right beyond that.
SPEAKER_05Well, and they've always had the the great like vintage cars. You can go there and see the road, yeah. They're with the Road Kings. It's fun.
SPEAKER_02And you tell me anybody that has ever complained about that hot fudge oh hot fudge cake.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you go that is delicious.
SPEAKER_00It's actually me and my husband's first date. Is that the is that the brownie cake delight?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, with the hot fudge on top of it.
SPEAKER_00Delish.
SPEAKER_02And now that everybody's hungry, we're still not through this.
SPEAKER_00We may not get through this category. Latin cuisine is La Bamba.
SPEAKER_05Love them.
SPEAKER_00Mexican cuisine, Mexico China Cafe, which is always packed outside.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say there's always a line. It doesn't matter what time of day, there's always a cluster of people.
SPEAKER_02And that was a that's a family operation. He used to be the chef to Lancers. When he left Lancer's, he opened Mexican, and it's him and his sister that started it, and they have a fantastic following. Like you say, the line on a weekend is a good half an hour wait.
SPEAKER_00All right, we've got Middle Eastern cuisine, Cafe Elegante.
SPEAKER_05And I don't think a lot of people know about Cafe Elegante. They're in like a little strip mall that's uh kind of close to Hill Street, uh, down towards Woodbury.
SPEAKER_02Exactly.
SPEAKER_05They've been there for a long, long time, and the food's really good.
SPEAKER_02I just read a big restaurant reviewer that had gone in there. The owner literally wants to make sure you leave happy and full. Yes. He literally comes to every table and not only asks, How are things? Why don't you try this and so forth? And again, like you said, it's in a corner of a little corner mall. You'll never see it. It's a small sign, but tell you the food, you'd be happy to try it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's uh, you know, people are just like word of mouth type thing, has really been able to uh effectively um elevate their business because most people drive by it and you never look twice at it.
SPEAKER_02Great to see some of these. I I will tell you, we've done this now for five years, and to see some of these winners that uh people, you know, get out of your house. If you live on the hill, go out to Bob's. If you live in the valley, come on up to the hill. There's you know, lots of places.
SPEAKER_00All right, we're at best omelet is Eaton Park, which they even wear shirts that say best omelet in town. Wow.
SPEAKER_02You want to hear my quick story about Eaton Park? Craig knows it rather well.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I remember this story.
SPEAKER_04Although we are getting a little short on time here.
SPEAKER_02I'll do it rather quick. There used to be a police officer that checked off at Eaton Park every day for lunch. And I we have a street called Eaton Drive. I drove up and down Eaton Drive looking for a park. There's it's all houses. I don't see any park. One day I went up to him and I said, Where the hell is Eaton Park? He said, Why don't Vest in Victory? I felt so dumb. It's a restaurant called Eaton Park.
SPEAKER_04Used to be an AW Rupert. It sure was. Wow.
SPEAKER_02Which we missed too. There were two of them in town.
SPEAKER_05It takes me back. They're done back now.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_00Right. Outdoor dining is tequila's Burbank, and they have worked very hard on their outdoor patio. They hold a party.
SPEAKER_02And uh it's amazing.
SPEAKER_05That's Patricia and Carlos. They are so incredible uh to our community. And all of that came in the back patio during the pandemic. Yeah. We were all shut down, and now it's turned into be a staple. They do events. My family went in different directions for Easter. So we got together, I think there were six of us, uh uh, seven of us that, you know, friends in the community that didn't really have anything going on. But tequila's was doing an Easter brunch and they had live music, and it was a packed house. It was so much fun. We know, and you have hosted their cancer, uh, you know, their annual cancer event. Uh they're they're in incredibly generous to our community beyond their delicious food.
SPEAKER_04And I'll say I'll say And when it all went back to normal, the city actually did leave all these businesses to remain outside of the and I think that that was a very good decision because it's it not only helped the restaurants with more seating room, but it's also created a better atmosphere, you know, for the diners.
SPEAKER_02But uh some local politics in that that is only temporary until December. They uh it's they yeah, there will be a hearing again.
SPEAKER_04Well let your city council member know that you want to keep outdoor dining.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. You know, we're in California. Never rains in Southern California. These places like tequila's outside, but even if it's raining, tequila's is covered. Yeah, they have fans there, they got heat in there, and I think as of just this last weekend, they're starting their, I think it's Thursday night.
SPEAKER_00Oh, they have tacos, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Taco bar, all you can eat for twenty dollars. You have a somebody with a big appetite, 20 tacos, no problem, 20 bucks.
SPEAKER_05At the holidays, they do a toy collection for Home Again LA. I mean, they're incredible.
SPEAKER_02They are, and they used to uh be one of our well, they're one of our advertisers, and I'll tell you they support us quite nicely.

It doesn't get more romantic than cast away. Seafood is California fish grill. Smoothie is again bone juice. Amazing smoothies. Soup is handy market.
SPEAKER_05Handy market soup is absolutely delicious too. There's not many things that they don't do with their catering department that is not outstanding, so no surprise that they're taking that category.
SPEAKER_00We have sports bar over under public house. Steakhouse is the smoke house.
SPEAKER_02You know, I'm surprised that uh we have a couple of new steakhouses in town, and I'm real surprised that uh they're gonna they're gonna be up for some competition. I'm oh yeah, told that there's a lot of people that also go to Morrison's uh Capitol Grill's Morton's Capital Grill. Now the Capitol Grill is very, very expensive, but you will get a fine prime piece of meat at uh all right.

SPEAKER_00We have vegetarian vegan, which is veggie grill. And lastly, winery is wax poetic.
SPEAKER_05Oh, how exciting. They're newer. Um uh wax poetic has been there for a long time, but their winery is just something that they've been able to launch over the last couple of years. So I love that it's getting traction like that.

SPEAKER_05And they have a great little bowling alley right there, too. Yes, and now that we don't have the Pickwick bowl anymore, it's a great place to go and you know.
SPEAKER_04I gotta break a rule here and talk about somebody who's not didn't win, but um pizza, pinball pizza and magnolia put in real pizza uh um pinball machines. Wow. I love pinball. So if you love pinball and you're looking looking for a good machine, try pinball pizza.
SPEAKER_00That's pretty much every week. Really good.
SPEAKER_04While the uh round was a great arcade, no doubt about it. All the fancy new games are out. Still pinballs.
SPEAKER_02Little trivia here. We should ask Craig here. At one time, how many pinballs did you have put in storage?
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_04Uh probably close to 15 to 12.
SPEAKER_00Did you have them still?
SPEAKER_04No, no, we I used to run a uh have them put them businesses.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I did not know that.
SPEAKER_04The upkeep is extremely picked up a lot of quarters.

SPEAKER_00All right. Art Gallery is Creative Arts, California Creative Arts. They do pop-up art galleries all over the city. Most of the time they're inside the Colony Theaters Art Gallery. Oh. Uh Burbank Event is the Burbank Cultural Market in downtown Burbank.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's a master there. They've actually moved now from Palm and Yes, they're they're now going in the city, the parking lot at behind City Hall. And uh we hope that there's a lot of success there. Uh um, we hope people will find them there. Uh it's a great it's it started off one day a week. Now it's three days a week.
SPEAKER_05And Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Uh Hilda and her husband Harry, they run it. And uh so we are doing a ribbon cutting for them tomorrow uh to make sure that the community knows where they're located so they can continue on with all of their incredible vendors. This is a gr what they are able to offer to us is a real value to our micro businesses. And there's not there's not too many people that are doing that on a regular basis beyond the downtown cultural market. So the chamber stands behind them, and we're gonna make sure that that even in their new location that they're set up for success.
SPEAKER_04They're very supportive too. We my burbank has a collectible section. We did we actually it's on eBay all the time, and we were actually doing a mobile setup in the culture market for a long time. Uh but great we had great business, great experiences. Really hope that she does well at her new location. We need that in the city. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00All right, children's indoor playground is Castle and Crown.
SPEAKER_02Another great place. I have two grandkids that are there numerous. The owners uh we did a ribbon cutting there, and I remember.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say, Ross, we were there together for the ribbon cutting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and she she has events going on uh daily.
SPEAKER_00And it's different than uh the indoor playgrounds that you're you're known. This is like fairy tale land, like it's hand built, like carriages and castles and stuff. It's really beautiful inside.

SPEAKER_00All right, we have Event Decor, which is a new winner, Giant Flowers LA. Uh, she makes absolutely like life-size, giant, beautiful flowers. Uh, event entertainment, madcap balloons. Again, you'll find them at pretty much every Burbank event.
SPEAKER_05Okay, we're at the Chili Cook-Off.
SPEAKER_04We just did our senior night for Burbank Baseball. We have an arrangement, but the problem is though, you bring those outside, you better have a way to weigh them down because you're chasing balloons all over the field after a while.
SPEAKER_02So, Madcap, they are at um many events in Magnolia Park. I've used them personally for things. Uh, my reunion, they supplied me balloons, and yeah, they can do almost anything and everything.

SPEAKER_04They are back this year. Once again, my only complaint is it's all garage bands or or cover bands. I wish I'd get somebody original in there.
SPEAKER_05Uh, they're they're looking into doing that because even though they're back, there's still other things that they need to do, and they are looking to uh elevate the experience. And if that's the case, they can get some uh notable um bands in there that are beyond, you know, what is it, the foos fighters are there. Let's get the foo fighters.

It's uh the best thing you can do you don't have to worry when you go to a friend's house or go somewhere if your kid knows how to swim and get it in the early ages.
Final Thanks And How To Support
SPEAKER_05Absolutely I mean if you look at all these categories it's just there's no reason to even leave leave Burbank if you have every I don't either I call it being in the Burbank bubble yes well there is no reason I am comfortable in the Burbank bubble all right we have a couple of categories left tutor is mission to math I highly recommend them Donald is so great and he has like coding classes engineering um great space uh yoga instructor is Michelle Weiser I don't know where she teaches but we'll find out and yoga studio is stretch which is um what we're gonna all do right now is at the end of the category studio and that is the categories okay well fantastic um let's let's first let's congratulate congratulate everybody and that is it for my Burmax Best 2026 anybody have any uh final uh observations or comments I just wanted to chime in to say what was so great is I saw so many of our members that are are being honored but there's so many businesses too that I have never heard on uh heard about so this is really going to push the chamber to really make these connections with these businesses that that are you know right here in Burbank and uh you know I I just want to personally congratulate all of the winners I appreciate you allowing me to be a part of this podcast as you made uh the announcement for over 200 businesses who are category winners uh and thank you my Burbank for offering this up every year it's really important to our business community and I think I we need to thank everybody that voted I mean they follow my Burbank that's how they knew about it a record number too yeah and I mean the businesses are telling their customers and Burbank um my Burbank has been around now for 16 years and this is something that we started five years ago and pretty darn popular.
SPEAKER_00Yeah it it started to celebrate your anniversary that's why we do it in April. Right because that's your anniversary of my Burbank absolutely start on April 1st and I think the the businesses get really excited about this contest every year and winning and it's become something to be really really proud of and yeah like we said earlier I love seeing the DKOS and certificates up. So I love it.
SPEAKER_05But it's yeah it's it's I shop around and it's it's is mighty proud to walk in and see that the stores are supported and and uh you know and what's great about it too is I know that even every time I walk into Talleyrand and I walk through the door I see that there but it doesn't even have to mean that it was for that specific year. You know like us here with you know 2024 so you get an uh you get an award like that and you're a winner, you keep that in here to let people know I was in um um romancing the the bean and they had theirs there for like uh I don't know I want to say it was like uh early 2000s or you know what whatever it was that you know that they were being honored for this it's uh it's bragging rights that make uh make our businesses proud and businesses do compete we have so many businesses 200 categories 200 winners is not a lot in the grand scheme of Burbank businesses so it's nice when there's different businesses winning each year because it kind of spreads the love to new places to explore.
SPEAKER_02But I want to throw out there you know everybody says oh let's go to my computer and order online these burbank businesses need your support they're small a lot of them deal with the studios not being as productive shop Burbanks shop small shop Magnolia Park it um the businesses need it and you guys voted we had how many you know 200 I mean so get out of your house and drive a different direction this week shop local yeah well that that's it for us um once again thank you to the chamber Jamie the chamber for hosting us here what a great venue um I hope people not only use can use this venue but will join the chamber too um actually great job on the contest as always I mean it's it's a lot of work people don't realize step is making the certificates so yes and and then and Ross's guidance and everything uh if you are a winner you will be receiving a a package soon to give you some opportunities to promote your business um it gives you your decal it gives you your certificate um you know there's no charge for the certificate or the or the decal and you can get your electronic decal also uh but we'd love to be able to promote your business for you too and if they want to jump the gun they can call us for advertising starting today.
SPEAKER_05I just wanted to let you know that if anybody needs to come and pick up the certificate that they're gonna be re you know receiving or anything and you need them to stop by the chamber to do that our doors are open.
