Speaker 4:

It was very close on some categories.

Speaker 2:

So, and without electoral votes counting or anything else, we actually just use the real, the people's votes here. You know, toriel college here. So basically we're gonna we split this up into different, uh, different sections here and we're going to talk about and and let you know who won each uh, each section, each each uh. Yeah, there we go and we're gonna.

Speaker 4:

I'm to do my best to say the names properly and correctly. Some of these businesses I don't know, but I'm going to do my best.

Speaker 2:

We'll do the best we can, you know.

Speaker 3:

And tell the truth. Ashley, you told me to kick you if you're really goofing up. Is that what I?

Speaker 4:

was feeling under the table.

Speaker 3:

No, that was Dodger's nose, yeah.

Speaker 2:

And nearly in the middle of May we're going to post all these results On our website also, so you can go in and take a look At them there. Myburbankcom. I feel like I've heard that before. Speaker 4:

This is our third Year, fourth year doing this.

Speaker 2:

Third or fourth yeah.

Speaker 4:

We've become very popular now.

Speaker 2:

It's really neat and I'll say this to all of our people out there when I go to stores and I see it on the window and I see the certificate hanging, it's pretty neat. You know, I've had people tell us hey, we see you at Sticker, so people pay attention.

Speaker 3:

We are becoming, I mean, you say my Burbank. I've had people tell us hey, we see you at Sticker and we see you now, so people pay attention. We are becoming, I mean, you say my Burbank. Last night I was shooting a fatal accident A lady comes out and said I just saw your picture. It's the same picture. Where are you standing right here? I just saw it on Twitter and she said oh, this is where we get all our information about Burbank, so if you want to be, a winner.

Speaker 4:

Follow my Burbank, and that's what's special about my Burbank is that it's all of the time. It's always updated, it's live. You're not waiting for the newspaper to come out in the morning. Something's happening. You're knowing about it right now.

Speaker 2:

And we thank her. We have over 70,000 readers on our website every month, plus another 70,000 on social media, so we appreciate everybody following us. But you know what? We're not here for that right now. We're here for my Burbank's Best 2024. Okay so, ashley, we're going to start off with we have a drum roll. We do have a we do. I have passed their office probably 52,000 times. They're right at the corner of Hollywood Way and Alameda. Now if you come down to the media district, you pass that corner.

Now does Harvey make a Harvey Wallbanger?

Speaker 2:

That would be priced to be his signature drink.

Speaker 4:

I don't think people realize that there's a bar at the hotel there and you can go in there. It's a beautiful little bar and people apparently go there for Harvey.

Speaker 2:

Five-star hotel yeah.

Speaker 3:

I think Craig's going to have to take us there for at least.

Speaker 3:

They're like family to us there can, I, can, I, can, I, can I break it? There's going to be a ferris wheel in there. Are they working a lot?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and we're not trying to pit one against the other. But you know, sometimes one just you know, stands out and next year it might be a whole different one. You never know.

that's a great idea. That might be a whole new market.

Speaker 3:

And our last category is tanning salon, the spray studio, which is a spray tan studio, not a tanning bed studio, and the funny thing is I'm a big Friends fan and the one show that they do where Ross goes in he's supposed to do it for five minutes and they say count and he forgets what number he's on. So the guy says no, turn around, do it again. He does it like 20 times and comes out Looks like you know he was baked. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, congratulations to all of our health and fitness winners I'm sorry, health and beauty winners.

Speaker 3:

Now we're getting into one that Craig and I know real well.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, this might be your guys' categories here. I'm excited to learn about these.

Speaker 1:

Here are your results for my Burbank's best food and restaurants.

Speaker 2:

Well, now we move into food. And what could be more American than food? Of course we all need it, we all love it. In fact, some of us love it a little too much.

Speaker 4:

We have a lot of categories in this section.

Speaker 2:

You know what. They're all different things. They're not really related in any way. Yeah Well, let's start off with the morning here, of course. Okay, In the morning we have what Bagels, right?

Speaker 4:

We have bagels, and Hank's Bagels takes the win on that one. And for bakery we have Porto's Bakery.

Speaker 2:

That is a favorite. I can't believe Porto's won.

Speaker 4:

Holy cow, yeah, are they popular by the judging of nominations?

Speaker 2:

they are very popular by the judging of the line down at Hollywood every day.

Speaker 4:

that too, that too, and the judging of all the locations that keep popping up everywhere I look um, okay, we have banquet center, which went to castaways, bar and grill, which is finney's craft house. Oh, okay they're delicious. Uh, barbecue is handy market for boba it's boba time.

Speaker 2:

Well, any market bar that's on saturdays. They have their barbecue out on Saturdays, so don't go there on Tuesday, wednesday or Thursday.

Speaker 4:

I mean, you could probably buy meat to barbecue there, but for their barbecue?

Speaker 2:

barbecue, but their barbecue to go eat, yeah, they do.

Speaker 3:

That's Saturday. They do Every night. You go. I know many people that eat live by HandiMarket.

Speaker 2:

You go back and they have prepared meals Right prepared meals you can get tri-tip and ribs Like a whole dinner, but they're outside barbecue on Saturdays. Once again, people are standing in line for yes, and it is worth it.

Speaker 4:

It's boba time, it's for boba, and I have to take my kids there once a week. That is by order. They love it.

Speaker 2:

I've never tried boba.

Speaker 4:

It's an experience oh yeah, I'm open.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to bring you a boba. I'm open to it once. Yeah, you got to try things oh yeah. There's a lot of foods I never used to eat and now I do.

Speaker 3:

So I will say, Ashley, he never touched sushi. We eat sushi on a regular basis.

Speaker 4:

Oh fantastic, yeah, Okay well, next time I will bring you some boba, oh good, and breakfast burrito is Larry's Chili Dogs. In brewery we have Lincoln Brewery.

Speaker 2:

Ross, didn't you say one time that if you get a Larry's breakfast burrito and you accidentally drop it on your foot, you'll break your foot? It's so big and heavy.

Speaker 3:

You will, and I have consumed several Larry's. I've gone to every place that has a breakfast burrito in this city and most people don't know. If you want tater tots instead of fried potatoes, Larry's will make your burrito with tater tots. You have a dietary. My son doesn't eat meat anymore and he brings in orders 20, 30 burritos to take the production when he's on a show.

Speaker 2:

I never thought about putting tater tots on a breakfast burrito, that's interesting. That's intriguing.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's John over there, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you. No, you're fine. Brewery is Lincoln Brewery. All right, we're going into brunch, which is Charlie, and Friends.

Speaker 2:

Buffet is Smokehouse, oh they have a great buffet.

Speaker 4:

I haven't tried it. I have to go.

Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness, oh on.

Speaker 3:

Sunday Really, don't eat for a week before you go. Yeah, I love it, and all the garlic bread you can consume I know yeah.

Speaker 2:

But you know what?

Speaker 4:

You got to stay away from garlic bread to go. Sometimes, yes, uh, burger is morrison. Catering is a touch of smoke barbecue and I have tried their food at a school function and it's absolutely delicious really oh okay, that sounds, that sounds great. You know, it's hard to find a good caterer yeah, and he's like he knows the grill and the smoker and so he smokes all his meat. I mean, his food is super creative and delicious. Chinese cuisine is Frontier Walk 2. Cocktail bar is Broken Compass, which is my go-to place.

Speaker 2:

Really.

Speaker 4:

I mean, I love it there so much. I'm really happy they won because they have the best cocktails. They have cocktails on fire, on fire. They really set it on fire. Yikes, yeah, yikes, coffee Shop, three Sisters Coffee, I think you and I have been there, haven't we Did?

Speaker 3:

we do their opening or something, or you did a story.

Speaker 4:

I've been there many times, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Tony's Dartsway.

Speaker 4:

Right next to Tony's.

Speaker 2:

So many coffee shops in Burbank. So to stand out, that really means you're doing something special and something right, especially in their first year of business.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, and their family owned Pickwick and. Sagona Upholstery. So it's a Burbank family.

Speaker 3:

Great story there and also it's nice. I read all over the comments on social media. People love. Yeah, you know yeah.

Speaker 4:

And we do have a lot of coffee, always, yeah, and the owner is always there working with her daughter. She's just incredible. Deli is King's Deli.

Speaker 2:

Now King's Deli. Okay, King's Deli is not a place to find very easily.

Speaker 4:

I don't know where it is.

Speaker 3:

No, but there aren't too many places in this city where you can get a pastrami on rye or a corned beef on rye brisket. The Jewish the real King's Deli is right here on Pass Avenue Between McFarland and. Warden.

Speaker 4:

Yep.

Speaker 3:

Oh, no, curb parking only. There's no back parking so you got to. But I'll tell you they also do a lot of catering and I've been to events and I could tell it's theirs so if you're looking for a good deli.

Speaker 2:

this is a place worth going out of your way for a little bit to find. Yeah, it's interesting.

Speaker 4:

they won because yeah, they're a first-time winner of this category.

Speaker 3:

And I do know it's a husband and wife team. Actually, robin runs a restaurant and they're part of Burbank's Young Professionals.

Speaker 4:

Oh wow, oh great. And they're invested in the community. That's amazing.

Speaker 2:

Then we move on with my next favorite section.

Speaker 4:

Dessert oh Artelis Patisserie.

Speaker 2:

And I've never heard of that.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, they're in downtown Burbank, on San Fernando, and what desserts do they make? Like little little pastries, like french pastries and things like that? Yeah, um, donut shop and my favorite dessert is donuts, if you really didn't know.

Speaker 2:

Now you know I always pick a donut above everything, and donut hut is my go-to place and they won best donut they've won oh I think every year I mean that mean that place has been on movies, it's an icon yeah it's an icon of Burbank, Keystone and Magnolia, I believe. Isn't it Correct? And I was?

Speaker 3:

just reading that the kids have taken over for.

Speaker 4:

Oh for Brian, yeah, oh, okay, yeah, yeah, I love them. Ethnic food store is Monte Carlo.

Speaker 3:

Yummy, yummy. One of my favorite places been around. I worked at lumber city. How many people remember lumber city? You walk down a block, go in the back door. Can't beat that. The italian food, but also love their potato salad, and I was told they put sugar in it. That's why it's so good.

Speaker 4:

Oh, I haven't had the potato salad, I don't have to try it.

Speaker 2:

Something else for sugared it.

Speaker 4:

for me, that's exactly what I need Gluten-free is tap, which I think the whole name is. I have to look it up. It's an Asian fusion or something like that.

Speaker 3:

And I believe they are up by off of San Fernando Road next to Starbucks and, oh, a whole row of restaurants right up there.

Speaker 2:

So near Palm and San Fernando, then it's called.

Speaker 4:

Tap the Asian Project.

Speaker 3:

It's an Asian fusion.

Speaker 2:

It's from Kmart, oh Kmart.

Speaker 4:

Okay, Hot Dog is Larry's Chili Dogs. Well, there's Larry's again. Yep, they got Hot Dog and Breakfast Breeder. Wait, a place called Larry's Chili Dog actually won for Best. Hot Dog is Larry's.

Speaker 4:

Yep, all right, we have Ice Cream Shop is Slider's Ice Cream which they've won, and where's Slider's On Burbank Bowl, right after?

Speaker 2:

you get there with Larry's, you walk next door and you're at Sliders. That's very true. You get the whole thing right there. One stop eating.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you know, and I have been into Sliders, as you can tell by looking at my physique, everything's homemade. He started doing the ice cream because there was chemicals in ice cream he didn't want his kids to eat. And he makes his own ice cream and his wife makes the cookies, cookies and cakes, and you can get individual little pies and so you're not just bringing little winners.

Speaker 2:

You're learning about how the sausage is made a little bit on the show too yeah, and their ice cream.

Speaker 4:

Like there's so many flavors in one little bite and you just like you have to take it slow and savor every moment of it so good and what's so cool about having somebody like that? He makes custom flavors I remember we did a story on my burbank yes, natalie and justin worship their anniversary ice cream.

Speaker 3:

So there you go if you want something custom made for a company yeah, they did that for burbank police too right yep um.

Speaker 4:

Indian cuisine is flavor of India. They're absolutely delicious. Italian cuisine is Pinocchio's, so they've got Pinocchio's as a winner and Monte Carlo, so both sides of their place have won.

Speaker 2:

Can't lose either way.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, there, you go there, absolutely Well if you want to buy real, real Italian food.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's where you go. Yep, yeah, japanese cuisine. Is Nico Nico Kid-friendly restaurant. Is Bob's Big Boy? Ah, okay, it is, and I will tell you that my kids do ask for that place.

Speaker 2:

So and I think you know even younger kids. They have little coloring stuff there, mm-hmm, they can and all that, but.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it's a stress-free zone.

Speaker 2:

Yeah and it's iconic for older people and younger people.

Speaker 3:

I mean, it's just, I was just driving by tonight and I just how it's so lit up right now. It's beautiful. I believe they were bob's is missing, the figurine outside I think they were filming a movie last week and it's out getting cleaned up and so forth. But bob's big boy if you talk to microsoft, he was, he's famous. He has a picture on the wall in there and he'll tell the world where michael j and Michael. Jordan Of him and Michael Jordan Yep.

Speaker 4:

At Bob's Big Boy.

Speaker 3:

At Bob's Big.

Speaker 4:

Boy. Oh, all right, late night restaurant is Coral Cafe again.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we love Coral. It's too bad they're not 24 hours anymore, because I used to go there all the time midnight one morning, but I understand that the way things are nowadays, that they have to close around 11 and uh, but we love coral I do.

Speaker 3:

I used to order those jalapeno skins at like two in the morning well, the secret is and I've learned when I had leg surgery they deliver with their own employees delivering and I ordered something, I think a grilled cheese or something. It was still, you know, hot, and if you get a salad like a cop salad, there's enough there for three days oh, the amount of food that comes when you order.

Speaker 4:

It's ridiculous. Yeah, it is so no wonder.

Speaker 3:

I mean yeah, everybody in town you know, you think, and we had our waitress from there also breakfast and late night restaurant.

Speaker 4:

Good job, coral. Yeah, latin cuisine is World Empanadas. Mexican cuisine is Tequila's Burbank, which all love tequila, all love tequila. I'm so happy that Patricia won this because she does so much for the community.

Speaker 2:

We had on our podcast. She was talking about donations for cancer research.

Speaker 4:

She's always doing something for somebody there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and they have great music and entertainment there. And you know what, If you want to eat outside, they have a great patio set up too.

Speaker 4:

We were just there for Cinco de Mayo and I was with Patricia there, and they have this amazing margarita like tower that you just like fill your cup under and it's like ever-flowing margarita, ever-ending margarita, Ever-ending margarita, best thing that was ever invented.

Speaker 3:

If I recall right, we have a featured article on my Burbank. She has a whole mess of stuff going on in the month of May. Miss Burbank was there last week or two weeks ago.

Speaker 4:

Yep, she's got her tequila tasting coming up on the 23rd.

Speaker 2:

So you can go to my Burbank and look what I want to throw this out here for everybody too. No business has paid us To be on our list. We're taking no. What we talk about is just off the top of our heads, has nothing to do with If they advertise or don't advertise or whatever. We do not take that into account. This is 100% the people's picks.

Speaker 4:

And we're just sharing the things that we also use as they come on this list.

Speaker 2:

We want you to keep us in the show, so we have to give you some banter.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it'd be really boring if I just read it all out to you, right?

Speaker 3:

And we get around. I mean, we eat at these places. But now you know why it is called the best of Burbank. Yeah, is because people have found these places are the best of Burbank, absolutely.

Speaker 4:

All right. Middle Eastern cuisine is soda. Natural health food store is sprouts. Outdoor dining is eat, drink, be, and this is a new place I found this year. Where is that? It's part of the Marriott?

Speaker 1:

Speaker 4:

It's beautiful patio, outdoor bar. Every table has either a fire pit or a fire, you know stand. They have live music. It's right across from the airport there, right.

Speaker 2:

Right across Okay.

Speaker 4:

You pull into that parking area right there, okay, and you have a view of the pool and the lights. What type of food Everything I mean. They've got like this charcuterie, pretzel board, poke, nachos, burgers, custom cocktails. I mean delicious.

Speaker 3:

Speaker 3:

Victory, just south of Magnolia. I recall before they were in the building they had a little tiki hut that they pushed out, that's right. And I used to go there three times a week and they give you not a senior card but a multiple. You know like.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, like a frequent flyer card I call it a frequent flyer card.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and I've gone through I don't know how many, so I watch them grow. But, if you have not tried a, they are yeah. And their sandwiches and everything.

Speaker 4:

We'll have to bring you that too, Craig, since you haven't had that.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you absolutely have to.

Speaker 4:

You're going to have to just try everyone on this food list.

Speaker 3:

Wait, I thought he was losing weight.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, but I can go without something else for the week.

Speaker 4:

Just one thing a week. For soup we have Lily's Cafe.

Speaker 3:

And I don't know if anybody knows. Now you talk about a hole in the wall. Not many people can you know. It's on Magnolia, just below Apollo. Yep, little little tiny hole in the wall. But they that and they. Somebody told me the other day their egg salad sandwiches and stuff like that.

Speaker 4:

I heard that is it their grilled cheese? I think it is. Or peanut butter and jelly they make, like I mean, people knew them. People put a lot of nominations for soup.

Speaker 2:

I've never heard of them and, once again, I love good soup that soup. This is the place to go Again.

Speaker 3:

Not a late night place, I know you like the late night, but they serve the offices all downtown.

Speaker 2:

Can you eat inside the business, or is it always to go?

Speaker 4:

I think they have a small seating area in there, a couple seats. Yeah, sports bar is Champs Steakhouse. We have Smokehouse again.

Speaker 2:

The world champion huh.

Speaker 3:

Mm-hmm Ashley, did I ever tell you this story? I used to live three blocks from Smokehouse. Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3:

And that's before Warner Brothers put a parking lot in there. I'd walk from my house to Smokehouse to get loaves of bread. Mm-hmm, and I had to buy three loaves of bread, one for the walk home, one for the next day, and then you got to have an extra loaf in the icebox because it saves for days. But that's when loaves were $5. I was a fireman at the Warner Brothers on Saturdays and Sundays when they kind of their closing hours, we'd go over there and buy 10 loaves.

Speaker 4:

Oh no, I really want those. I'm so hungry you guys? All right, we have sushi, Kuru Kuru.

Speaker 2:

Kuru Kuru Ross and I have been there many times.

Speaker 4:

I have to try it. I love sushi.

Speaker 3:

They have to get them to make a.

Speaker 2:

Screen actors. They have a. There's a couple that are really.

Speaker 3:

That's a brilliant idea. All right, tacos Fiesta Taco Okay. Thai Cuisine, siri Thai Vegetarian Vegan Food is Hummus Republic. And our last category is Winery Urban Press Winery Wow.

Speaker 2:

Fantastic. Let's thank all the great food restaurants that have all stepped up and went on this year on my Burbank's Best 2024.

Speaker 1:

Here are your results for my Burbank's Best Entertainment.

Speaker 2:

Now moving into entertainment. Not a lot of places in Burbank's best entertainment. Now moving into entertainment, not a lot of places in Burbank for entertainment, but the ones that are here. We have a few winners, so Ashley take us through them.

Speaker 4:

Sure, we've got a couple categories here. We start with adult amusement, which means places that you can go for billiards, darts, you know, adult fun.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's geared toward adults. We're not bringing your kids with you.

Speaker 4:

Correct, and the winner of that category is Tony's Darts Away.

Speaker 2:

Oh, okay, they do have darts.

Speaker 4:

Of course they have darts at Tony's Darts. I hope so.

Speaker 2:

Okay, very good. Burbank event is Holiday in the Park. Holiday in the Park. Look at that. Yeah, I'm here with royalty, aren't I? Yeah, I think you organized and ran that last year.

Speaker 4:

I've been planning it for 12 years.

Speaker 2:

You've been doing it for 12 years, 12 years. It is wonderful, 35,000 people show up. Last year, didn't we? Yeah? Just about. Amazing. I love how you closed off the street. It's just a big community event.

Speaker 4:

And this is the first year that I am not planning it. I retired from the event industry. You went out a champion. I did. I wanted to end on a good note.

Speaker 2:

I wanted people to remember a good event, not me failing and then being like oh, well, you know, we're going to put the Myberg's Best decal on your forehead for this year so you can walk around with it.

Speaker 3:

Well, most people don't know, I happen to be on the Magnolia Park Holiday and the Park Committee and she works her more than off. I mean, she literally has done a great job and we're now trying to fill those holes and gaps.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it is a lot of work.

Speaker 3:

A lot of people don't realize $92,000 it costs to put that event on.

Speaker 2:

We hopefully at the budget meeting the other night they were talking about step people in the water to help community groups.

Speaker 4:

So we'll see if that is going to happen or not. Yeah, that was the hardest part was the funding. All right, children's Indoor Playground is Wonderland for kids and I've been seeing a lot more indoor playgrounds popping up around Burbank. Event Entertainment is Madcap Balloons Some of my favorite people. You will see them at Holiday, in the Park, at the Food Truck Nights, at pretty much every school function, twisting balloons into animals.

Speaker 3:

I have recommended Arches. At events, I have recommended them. I remember when my son was he's now, what 35?.

Speaker 2:

They have entertainment there, huh.

Speaker 4:

Speaker 4:

Because that's entertainment alone, is just leaving and going to a hotel and Burbank is a lot of hotels. There is quite a lot, yeah, so that is a very and they're a boutique hotel.

Speaker 2:

I think they're, yeah, a five-star four, what do you call it? Four-star, five-star? They got all the stars.

Speaker 3:

Well, they're five or six. I was there, I did a picture.

Speaker 4:

I think it was a bridal or something there and turn around and who's at the counter emerald lagasse and I had to walk up and go bam, no way. Yeah, that's really cool all right.

Speaker 3:

So you, if you go there and go to the bar, you might be rubbing elbows with what celebrities, or you know emerald lagasse or some celebrity all right live theater, and this one is very close to my heart.

Speaker 4:

The colony theater, my favorite place, or some celebrity All right Live theater, and this one is very close to my heart, the Colony Theater, my favorite place.

Speaker 2:

Well, I know you do some work with them.

Speaker 4:

I do.

Speaker 2:

yeah, I'm very happy that the city council did what they did and awarded the contract to the right people, because there's more to running a theater than just running a theater.

Speaker 4:

And these people are like the heart and soul of theater.

Speaker 2:

They are working so hard and I was very impressed at the council when they pulled that video out and it wasn't just a bunch of b and c list actors, they had a list actors saying support the colony yeah, the call, which I was very impressed with.

Speaker 4:

So yeah they're on the map and if you just saw, we had an amazing production of Footloose yes, incredible. So there's lots of big things in the works this year. All right, we got museum Burbank Historical Museum oh, we love that place. They are pretty fancy. They have a big anniversary barbecue coming up or something right?

I'll tell you what most of these stores on here are. You know, quote mom and pop stores, the small stores, the stores that really need you to support them year-round. Yeah, okay, I get it, we all need things on Amazon here and there, especially in a hurry. But if you really don't need it that fast on Amazon, find one of these stores and stop by. They would appreciate your business. This is what makes Burbank Burbank.

Speaker 4:

And I believe it's Small Business Month.

Speaker 3:

Yes, you are so correct, there you go.

Speaker 4:

Month, yes, you are so correct, there you go.

Speaker 3:

So these are the stores that you should go, support you know and I noticed on as we go down the list I we won't go ding ding ding, but a lot of these are magnolia park businesses yeah I mean, those are literally the mom and pop, like you say these are the ones that you know stay late and help you out, and they're that's just great.

I was in there the other day. I stopped in and they got some unusual stuff. You want to wear a mask from some TV show? Yeah, they got it. Yeah, they're collectibles. There was a figurine in the middle of their store I don't know what movie, but I looked at it and I just said forget it.

Speaker 4:

I'm out of here. They have like a life-size dinosaur in there. It's pretty cool. Well, that's from Boston.

Speaker 3:

They just have a new mural.

Speaker 4:

I thought I read somewhere that you composed in front of yeah, they have murals the entire wrap, almost the whole building. Yeah, that's pretty amazing. Um, all right, comic books is house of secrets. Dancewear is front and center stage discount store is dollar king furniture store is bob's discount furniture bob's bob's discount you know, I have a new couch that my granddaughter just loves.

Speaker 3:

She thinks I bought it for her. It's one of these ones that you know. The sides go up and the middle goes down. You can put your drink in it Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And that thing is so comfortable and I like shopping at Burbank. Yeah, bob's, I went to Bob's and Bob helped me, did you get a discount?

Speaker 3:

Well, yes, I did. You know, would you believe, I didn't pay a lot for this couch and it's built like I mean it weighs a ton. Their delivery, the guys put it in, took all the other you know, the packaging, everything away.

Speaker 4:

They just set it right up for you.

Speaker 3:

Yes, I plugged it in. I got to sit in it, that little 12-inch guy. Was he the guy you were talking about? Bob was there, yeah, and then a day later I got a questionnaire how was your delivery?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, okay. Well, if you have kids, you know that you go through couches quite often, so that's where you would go.

Speaker 2:

Or dogs.

Speaker 4:

There you go. Yeah, I think we're on our fourth couch.

Speaker 3:

Well, but I'm sorry to say you know what? I got that warranty with it, my dog Duchess. Do anything to it, it's covered.

Speaker 4:

It's covered, fantastic.

Speaker 3:

But I don't let Duchess jump on the couch.

Speaker 4:

All right Games, geeky Teas and Games. It's in the name.

Speaker 3:

Oh, okay, now did I see right. Ashley, am I talking correct? I drove by their building. They just recently moved to Alameda.

Speaker 4:

Yes, that's correct. I think it's a bigger location, more space, because they have people come in and do games and tournaments there. Alameda End.

Speaker 3:

Across from the pavilion.

Speaker 5:

Oh no, in the pavilion where we used to go to.

Speaker 3:

Weight Watchers. We both lost 100 pounds.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, guess what I found it.

Speaker 3:

But that's where Geeky T's If people wonder, there's a banner in front of Geeky T's. We've moved to Alameda.

Speaker 4:

Okay, good to know. Gifts Bell Cottage this is the place for gifts. They have been there for so long. Teresa and David are amazing. They have gifts for everyone for children, toddlers, your mom, your dad. That's the place to go. Hardware and Home Improvement DIY Center.

Speaker 3:

Ross, what did that used to be? Lumber City, 842. Oh, I can give you the phone number if you want. And they're also, I won't say, the house of cats, but if you're a cat fan, yeah, I told one of those cats is sick. Oh. I didn't do a story on that, but do it.

Speaker 4:

Oh, that's a cat. That does sound like a sick cat.

Speaker 3:

That's a big cat, that's a big tiger. But no, you can find everything from a left-handed screwdriver to a right-handed wrench.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I go there for it. Think about that. Yeah, I go there for a lot of things. Hobby store is Burbank, house of Hobbies. All right, home decor, home goods, jewelry store is Mindfulness, also known as Stay Home Friend Shopping. Kids clothing wear it once, wear it twice. That's like a used kids store, but you can get some great deals there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, just because it's used doesn't mean it's, you know, ratted.

Speaker 4:

Oh, 100% they're actually very picky with what they put on their shelves. Sure, absolutely yeah. And when your kids are constantly getting things messy and outgrowing it, you don't want to spend money on stuff.

Speaker 2:

I mean now I have no kids, but you have kids. How, how often do you have to change your kids, you know, when they're five years, five, let's say five years old. Yeah, how long is that during?

Speaker 4:

a five-year-old year they stay in the same size. I mean, I feel like every six months you're buying new clothes especially one of your sons, is growing in fact, isn't it? One is six foot and one is my height five, four yeah I can't even steal their shoes. No, I was. I used to wear their sweatshirts and their shoes, and now they're to be for me. So, but also does?

Speaker 3:

don't they also sell some of the studio stuff that's used for one picture, you know, in a movie or whatever, and they sell it there? I don't know I think I've seen that there, because yeah, and again, that's an actor putting something on for a scene can't read yeah and they also have strollers and all sorts of stuff there.

Speaker 4:

Uh, men's clothing is chance vintage. That's located next to portos. Uh, nursery and garden is tansy and if you haven't been into tansy, it is the most beautiful place in burbank I've never been in tansy but I know they.

Speaker 2:

They put a lot of events on our calendar. They're always doing, you know, events and community events and it looks, they look very interesting beautiful.

Speaker 3:

You never want to leave in there you know and I will say I can't think of the ladies the owner's name she is. It's one of burbank's only female black owned businesses and she promotes that. Yeah, you know, and they've really they. I remember we used to go to clint's, right next door and it was an aqua shop, but now there's, you can get everything there yeah, and there's like little rooms and everything.

Speaker 4:

I mean it's like a little magical wonderland in there. Yep, all right. Pet supply cnc record store is run out.

Speaker 3:

Groove records and you might see them moving to a better place, moment, momentary oh, are you breaking?

Speaker 4:

is this breaking news?

Speaker 3:

I think I heard a rumor that uh you know what is that?

Speaker 2:

the location of green day stopped at green day.

Speaker 3:

Um oh, yes yes yes on cordover across from. Yes, we did a story.

Speaker 2:

Yeah um green day was there for an album release or something, or an album listing party and, holy cow, the whole band was there that's cool and we I will say I'll give him a little credit and you've helped him out quite a bit and I appreciate it he's, that is who has taken over as holiday holiday in the park.

Speaker 3:

Coordinator.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, jeff. He has some time to move, then Well, I I've said that to him.

Speaker 3:

I said Ashley didn't have a store to run. He has four businesses.

Speaker 4:

Oh, my goodness so, but may the force be with him. Um, may the force be with him. Okay, Shoes is Fleet Feet, and this is not just ordinary shoes. This is, they sell running shoes. They're a running store and they actually have this machine where you they test your feet to see where you lean or you have issues with the sole of your foot, and then they have the right inserts to help you with your shoes, which is kind of cool.

Speaker 3:

Well, you know what? I also have been going in there. I I do buy my tennis shoes there, but I had a fleishy whatever it's called the plantar fasciitis. They have an insert oh my goodness, that's so painful I've never had it again since I put in these soles that they sold me and I just put got a new one. But yeah, right here in Burbank instead of going Pasadena or Thousand Oaks right here and they can kill you.

Speaker 4:

If you've got problems with your feet, go to Oasis and go to Fleet Feet. All right, Sporting Goods is Big Five. Technology Store is LAPC Networking. They also won Tech Repair and they're also the Technology Store Thrift stores. La. La Providencia Guild of Children's Hospital, LA.

Speaker 3:

They do great work there. They do and the displays on their window. Every quarter they redo their windows and they are just like the showroom quality and it's amazing new york and burbank exactly, and if you're at larry's it's right across the street, so it is very eye-catching.

Speaker 4:

I do notice it every time I drive by. All right, we got tires, western tires, and toys is again blast from the past. They do have a lot of toys, a lot of collectibles. Uh, vintage clothing is play. I believe they have one every year. Wine and spirits is Fancy Free. We actually did a podcast with Natasha from Fancy Free. Oh, that's nice. I absolutely love them. They have custom cocktails Amazing business.

Speaker 3:

And she also does that bartending service. Yeah, the Whaling Club yeah if you want to have a bartender at your private event, she brings it all the ice, the cups, the booze.

Speaker 2:

Check our Women of Burbank podcast out and you'll hear all about her and the business.

Speaker 4:

And women's clothing is Audrey K Boutique. That is the end of our contest there.

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, congratulations to all those stores who've won. We're very happy for you and we hope that you enjoy your Certificate and your Sticker and please put it on your door, put it on your Certificate on your wall. It would be great to have Applause, applause, applause. Okay, that's going to Take us now to our last category Music Music.

Speaker 1:

So a lot of things that you may not know about and you will find out about now. So, ashley, go ahead and take it away First.

Speaker 4:

we have acting school, which is Brian Cutler Acting School. They are located on Magnolia Boulevard.

Speaker 2:

I've heard a lot of very popular places right here too, yeah.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, they won last year as well. Oh, art classes for adults is wine and design. So that's like a place where you kind of take the painting classes, they give you wine, they do like step-by-step tutorial.

Speaker 2:

Should we design in wine? Because I'm scared. If you have the wine first, then you try design.

Speaker 4:

You know what's so funny Because I've taken a class there and you have to be really careful with your cups, your wine cup and your water cup, for your paintbrushes?

Speaker 3:

Yes, that is yeah, be careful with that. Yeah, I remember you did the story because I went in there. She's part of Magnolia Boulevard and I've been in there trying to think the owner's name. Lisa. Lisa and companies go in there at night as a party for your company Like a bonding thing.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, exactly yeah corporate parties, girls' nights, whatever you want to do For kids' classes. It's Jamie Butterworth, or people call her Ms Jamie.

Speaker 3:

And Jamie has been around. She's part of our local schools and part of burbank arts for all. And yeah, she plays, her band plays yeah, yeah, she's all over the place.

Speaker 4:

She's amazing. All right for boot camp. We have brooke purdy fit happens and she does her classes over at adam's boot camp boxing gym over there on Burbank Boulevard. She's pretty cool. I'm actually going to take her class on Monday for the first time, so I'll let you know how that goes. All right, boxing Gym is Fetiquity.

Speaker 2:

Oh, now they have a boxing gym. It's a full gym there also.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, they have a full-size boxing ring and a full-size gym.

Speaker 2:

I know it's great with that place. It's easy, you have the parking, it's right there at holloway and, um, yeah, victory. Very easy to park and walk into. You, don't you know?

Speaker 4:

trying to find a family owned, owned by brothers, run by their, them and their sons. It's a great family business. Uh, dance school, gary dance. They've been around forever, their favorite, yep yeah, I boy, I'll tell you.

Speaker 3:

I happen to know the original owners and you know um they have been. I'll tell you. I happen to know the original owners and you know they have been. They'll teach you ballet tap.

Speaker 4:

My granddaughters learned how to keep rhythm in there, they have hip-hop classes, they have singing classes, they have everything, yeah.

Speaker 3:

And she also usually at Holiday in the Park puts on a heck of a show I mean it's funny, you drive down Magnolia and going to tequila's. If I'm going somewhere, you look over all the parents outside the window watching through the window put chairs out.

Speaker 4:

Oh, that's cute, that's really cute. Um daycare is village infant toddler center. Early childhood education is our village preschool, elementary school. Now all of the schools in Burbank are top notch.

Speaker 2:

Okay, we're very lucky. We're not competing, you know. But there is a fan favorite.

Speaker 4:

It is, and it is Roosevelt Elementary.

Speaker 2:

Congratulations.

Speaker 4:

Congratulations, and the elementary school teacher is Kathy. I think it's Sills or it might be, is that it?

Speaker 2:

Or Wills. I have to check that.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, we'll have to find out what school they're at, what school she's at, yeah she was nominated, but I don't know what school, so we will find out. Okay, event meeting space is the Burbank Chamber of Commerce.

Speaker 2:

Now I think a lot of people don't realize that they have a meeting space and they rent out to the public, which is and once again, a lot of parking right next to it.

Speaker 4:

I didn't know that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And what's convenient is they have an executive room that you can have audio video. Oh, it has a conference room, but they have a patio that you can use, or people use it on nights and weekends and you have the whole works. But, like Craig says, parking's available and the chamber is renting it out. Call and they will. It's really that's awesome.

Speaker 2:

Right across you from the Brink Water and Power.

Speaker 4:

Yeah yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you don't have to take an elevator to get to your car. No. You don't have to walk a half mile. Your car is 20 feet from the back room, so yeah, Wonderful.

Speaker 4:

I'm glad Now we know where to go. I had no idea. Fitness Center is Hardcore Fitness so I don't know if you guys know, but I'm doing a fit guide and I'm trying every fitness class in Burbank.

Speaker 2:

You know I was going to do the same thing.

Speaker 4:

Were you. I'm sorry, I did that to you.

Speaker 2:

But then I had to actually go try it, yeah, yeah, so I kind of said ah, you know.

Speaker 4:

Well, I'm about eight places in so far. And Hardcore Fitness I did try and it is pretty cool. I really enjoyed it, and they're a new business in one of the new apartment buildings down in downtown Burbank, right right Gymnastics studio is Cal Elite, and here we have high school Again. Both great, but Burroughs took the cake on this one.

Speaker 3:

You know, again we run stories, get parents to call us from burbank high we're running too many burlesque. We run a fair again. This was all done, you know, by readers sending it in. But you do have three or two burlesque alumni, you know our do you know?

Speaker 2:

our sports department actually charts the amount of stories they do per sport during the season to make sure that they do an equal amount. The thing is, they have to also find games that are competitive, not the blowout games, so it makes it tough but our sports surgeon Regio does a real good job in trying to make sure he picks out as fair to both schools and I know we cover Providence also.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I see all the sports are. They're always sports games popping up, so they're really good about getting to all those games. All right, we've got high school teacher johnny rotano anybody know where he is, where he hell's from I don't. I think he might be the soccer coach because his wife is amanda, who won crimson salon but is he a teacher?

Speaker 4:

I don't know we'll find out I mean, okay, is a soccer coach, a teacher, you work at the school? No, the voting came in and that's who won. The people have spoken. Uh, martial arts studios, inspire martial arts. Alright, middle school. It is John.

Speaker 2:

Muir. Oh okay, the Muir Mustang is up there, huh.

Speaker 4:

And middle school teacher is Aaron Constantine.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 4:

I don't know where she works, but I do know her. She's very involved in the PTA. Okay, great At the Burbank Council level Music schools, Guitar Ninjas. We just did a podcast with them.

Speaker 2:

I was so impressed. What was the owner's name? Jason Land. Jason Land, very impressed with him. He's been brewing for a long time. Very glad to be here.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Burbank, torrance, now santa monica. He's building his brand.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he started from his home and now he's, but he lives here in burbank too, so good for him um, all right.

Speaker 4:

Parenting class is the burbank parent ed class at the adult school quite popular for years and years and years party supply is burbank party supply it's in the name personal trainer is again brooke purdy, very popular guy. Yeah, it's a girl, that's a girl, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, once again training, yeah, and me sorry she is pretty amazing.

Speaker 4:

She has a fierce boot camp. Uh, pilates studio is kelly's pilates. She won again. She's an incredible woman. I know her as well. Um, and there's actually a lot of pilates places in burbank. I'm learning as I'm doing this fit guide I'll take your word for that um, all right, we got private school saint francis xavier. Oh okay, all right, and private school teacher is theresa smith and got to find out where she is.

Speaker 2:

Next year, when we do this, we'll have to find out in advance where these teachers are from.

Speaker 4:

Yeah put the name and then the school so we can find them. Yeah, let us always know who these people are. Sports instructor is Mike Graceffo.

Speaker 2:

Mike Graceffo. Oh, my goodness, Mr Graceffo he has gotten. I can't believe people vote for him because he's everywhere Now. He's an expert in basketball. He coached at the Michael Jordan camp in Chicago. He's coached high school baseball, high school football Wow, Been around forever, don't you guys go back to?

Speaker 2:

Well, we go back actually to third grade, oh my gosh. And we actually coached our very first team together Back in 75 and we coached a team. It was very you know, we were both juniors at Burroughs and we coached a A ninth grade. Back then it was a junior high team Ninth grade team and the year after we won the division and everything in Burbank Hat Miner. The next year we go to high school, we're seniors and here's about six or seven of our players going to school with us. Oh wow, it was a very unique experience.

Speaker 3:

Very surreal. But again, if you've been around Burbank, mike worked for the city of Burbank Parks for 40 years. He retired, he's at St Finbar now Yep, and he's also at the Boys and Girls Club. Okay. He walked away with a Rolex. No, no.

Speaker 4:

That's where I first met. I didn't know Mike until I saw him at the Boys and Girls Club.

Speaker 2:

So nice to see that Mike won. We did a Coach's Corner show with him also. Oh, fantastic.

Speaker 4:

Well then, I'm glad he won. It sounds like he's a popular guy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, mike's a great guy. You know what? If you haven't heard about him winning, you will very shortly, because he is the king of promotion.

Speaker 4:

Fantastic. All right. Swim Lessons is Lucille Cowell. Tutor is Mission to Math, which we love them so much. They support our schools. They actually started at Guitar Ninjas. They were in the same location. They kind of built the brand right there and then he moved on to his own location. But they still work together. They're pretty great. And our last category is Yoga Studio, which is School of Stretch.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, and that is hot yoga.

Speaker 2:

Hot yoga.

Speaker 4:

Like it's hot in there. Is there cold yoga, there's regular yoga and then there's hot yoga.

Speaker 2:

Well, that does it for that section and we thank everybody and congratulations to everybody who won there. Well, that's 203 categories and number one. We want to thank everybody who went to my brink and voted for their favorites. It's actually a lot of work and Ashley would know, because she's the one who has to put all the votes together and everything else to do all the counting.

Speaker 3:

She did our telling. Yes, she said she wasn't wearing shoes. So she can count up to 20, get something off.

Speaker 4:

This contest has been my baby. You know, I designed the little label and I make all the certificates and I put the categories together and then I tally them and then I fill out all the envelopes and I mail them out. And it is a lot of work but I love it because I love to see the certificates and the decals up at the windows.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, and we appreciate all the support from the burbank community that we get as my burbank and uh ross, anything you want to know we sign off with.

Speaker 3:

There's a lot of people and there's places that I learned today and I've been a yeah, six, eight year rest into the city so I'm glad I you know, kind of yeah, I mean, there's so many new businesses and you know, you know, we think we know everything.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we know Burbank like nobody else does. And then, oh really, where is that place? Yeah, what do they do? So that's why this is a great thing Go and experience some of these places. I think you'll really enjoy it. Let them know that you heard about.

Speaker 4:

Winning is means something to yeah actually any parting words um, just congratulations um for the businesses that are listening. You will be getting stuff in the mail. Um, maybe we can put our email in the the bio of this so they can get their digital decal. Uh, if they want that um want it for your website or your advertising? Yeah, you can put it on advertising for sure. So let me know and I will send that to you.
